1. (a) Solve the equations:
(i) 56 x+1 × 25x−7 = 125; (4 marks)

(c) Three currents I1, I 2 and I 3 in amperes flowing in an electric circuit satisfy the
following simultaneous equations:

3I1 + 3I 2 − 2 I 3 = 4
2 I1 − 5 I 2 − 3I 3 = 14
