(CYCLOTRIMETHYLENETRINITRAMINE)

This amendment forms a part of MIL-R-398D, dated 12 December


1996, and is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies
of the Department of Defense.

And substitute with the following:

3.3 Granulation., Delete Table II and substitute with


Table II below: (Note: This is an editorial change for
better clarity, the technical contents in Table II have not
been changed.)

The granulation requirements shall be as specified in Table II


when tested in accordance with 4.7.6.

4.4.2 Inspections to be performed, last sentence, delete in


its entirety and substitute the following:

“(See MIL-STD-1916 for definitions of critical, major and


minor classification of characteristics.)”

4.5.1 Inspection lot formation, delete second sentence from


bottom and substitute the following:

“The lot shall be submitted for inspection in accordance


with MIL-STD-1916 when applicable.”

4.5.2a, Classification of characteristics, parenthetical


note, delete “DOD-STD-2101” and substitute “MIL-STD-1916”

4.6.1 Sampling, delete second sentence and substitute the


following:

“The selection of batches for inspection sampling and


testing shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1916 except that
in lieu of Table IV (MIL-STD-1916), the following continuous
sampling plan shall be used: i=7, f=1/3 and there shall be
no reduced or tightened inspection level.”

Sampling, second sentence from the bottom, delete “MIL-STD-


1235” and substitute with “MIL-STD-1916”.

4.7.2 Determination of insoluble particles, second sentence,


delete in its entirety and substitute the following:

“Sieve shall comply with the requirements of ASTM E11.”

4.7.6 Determination of granulation, subparagraph a, first


sentence, delete “ . . .specified 8-inch U.S. Standard
sieves complying with Specification RR-S-366 . . .” and
substitute “. . .specified 8-inch U.S. Standard sieves
complying with ASTM E11. . .”

4.7.7.1, HPLC method conditions: Delete the 3rd sentence, “The


mobile phase shall……., and 7.5% by volume of methanol.”,
and substitute with the followings:

“The mobile phase shall be a quaternary system consisting


of the following components and volumetric proportions: 70%
of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane (iso-octane), 20% of chloroform,
7% of acetonitrile and 3% of methanol. In actual
application, the volumetric ratio of solvents can be

adjusted slightly to “optimize” the chromatography of the


components of interest (RDX or HMX).”
