“Vision”

“The picture of the future that we want to see.”

Peter Senge
“Purpose”

¬ It gives foundation to our vision.

¬ It gives legitimacy to our vision.
¬ It defends our vision.
“Real vision can’t be understood in isolation
from the idea of purpose. By purpose, I mean an
individual’s sense of why he is alive.”
Peter Senge
Peter Senge’s articulation of and
Vision and Purpose
❖Vision is the “What?”--the picture of the
future we seek to see.

❖Purpose is the “Why?”, the

organization’s answer to the question,
“Why do we exist?”
A Famous Dialogue
from the Book

Alice: Which road would

lead me to my destiny?
Cat: What is your
destiny?
Alice: I do not know.
Cat: Than any road
would lead you there.
“People who say that they don’t know what
they want, definitely and passionately know
what they don’t want.”
If you do not plan for something that
you want, chances are that you’ll get
something that you never wanted!
If you don’t know where you want to
go, chances are you’ll get somewhere
you never wanted to be, but the
problem is that you’ll only know
when you get there!
Your not planning for good health is a
fantastic plan in itself for bad health.
One of the best plan for bad health is to have
no plan for good health.
If you are failing to plan, you are planning
to fail.
W ithout a direction,
!
we are at risk!
Without a clear vision, we
don’t have a direction!
So, if a=b=c, then, a=c,
Which means, without a
clear vision, we are at a
severe risk!
The correctness of a vision is determined
by the soundness of the ideology.
Vision is nothing but a collection of
directions.
What is a Paradigm?
“A paradigm is the way you see something, your point of
view, frame of reference, or belief. As you may have noticed,
our paradigms are often way off the mark, and, as a result,
create limitations.”

 We have paradigms of ourselves

 We have paradigms of others

 We have paradigms of life

• Stuff-Centered
• Parent-Centered
• Friend-Centered
• Spouse-Centered
What is a Principle?
A principle is a belief you have about whatever is valuable to you
such as Honesty, Hard Work…

 “Just as there are principles that rule the physical world,

there are principles that rule the human world… If you live
by them, you will excel. If you break them, you will fail.”

 What do you value? What is important to you?

 Write 3 principles by which you live.

What is a Personal Bank Account?
The sum total of all of the feelings you have about yourself.

“Just like a checking or savings account at a bank, you can

make deposits into and take withdrawals from your PBA by
the things you think, say, and do.”

 So how do you create a positive PBA balance?

Simple. Deposit more than you withdraw!
