1 Overview
This document describes the SC4400 OEM board stack. The SC4400-OEM board stack contains 7
main parts:
• 1x Bottom shield
• 1x Digital board
• 1x Middle shield
• 2x RF boards where each RF board supports two RF channels.
• 2x Top shields.

Figure 1 shows the SC4400 OEM stack in both single band and dual band configuration. The left
side is the single band stack and the right side is the dual band stack. The only difference
between the single band stack and the dual band stack is the RF boards and their mechanical
shields. The dual band RF board is larger and has a larger metal shield. However, the overall
dimension is the same.

Each SC4400 stack consists of three PCBs, of which one is referred to as digital board and the
other two are RF boards. The two RF boards are side by side but face the opposite direction. The
PCBs are sandwiched between metal plates. The metal plates provide EMI shielding to the
boards and absorb the heat from the boards. Each RF boards and the digital board are
connected via a 50-pin Hirose DF56 fine coax cable assembly for controls. The RF board receives
power from the digital boar via a Hirose 2-pin DF57 cable assembly. The IO ports that concern
an OEM integration are the four antenna ports on the two RF boards and the power and digital
IOs on the digital board. Figure 2 shows the locations of these ports. The RF ports are
SMP connectors. All the digital IOs are contained in J11 on the digital board. J11 is a 50-contact
Hirose DF56 connector. J5 is a 4-contact Hirose DF57 connector for power and ground. Please
refer to Section 3 for pinout definition of J5 and J11.

• Special note regarding LED control

If using the standard Silvus provided LED, a 240 ohm current limiting resistor is
required on both LED_A1 and LED_A2 control lines. These resistors are already
mounted on the Silvus provided SC4400 adapter board (Part Number: SC44-OEM-5).

4 Power Consumption and Heat Management

The OEM stack consumes 7.5W - 48W depending on the transmit duty cycle, transmit power,
frequency band used, and if powering any USB devices. All hot components are tightly coupled
to the metal shields via thermal pad material. The digital board consumes approximately 7W of
power. The remainder of power is consumed by the two RF boards. It is recommended that heat
sinks are applied to both sides of the OEM.
