How to Write a Recount Text
1. Orientation
Orientation is the opening part of the recount text which contains the topic or event.
Orientation introduces who, what, where, when, and why. Therefore, you need to answer
questions regarding these aspects. For Example : (SMP Merdeka’s School Parade - Unit 2
Section 4)
Who takes part in these activities? (All students including Galang and his friends)
What did you do in this activity? (Joined the school parade)
When did the activity happen? (On August 17th)
Where did the activity take place? (SMP Merdeka)
Why was the activity carried out? (To celebrate Independence Day)
2. Record of Events
Record of events is a sequence of events. What you need to do if you want to write
record of events is write down what activities you have done. For example : (SMP
Merdeka’s School Parade - Unit 2 Section 4)
1. All participants lined up and started to march.
2. The villagers were very excited to watch the parade past their houses.
3. Participants took a door prize coupon.
4. Participants had some drinks.
5. Participants continued to parade to their school as the final destination.
6. All participants took some rest while waiting for the door prize announcement.
7. The headmaster announced the winner.
