A Demonstration Lesson Plan in Science 8 – SCIENCE (WORK, ENERGY AND POWER)

Topic WORK, ENERGY AND POWER

LC code S8FE-Ia-16
Grade Level Grade 8
Time Allotment 60 minutes
Teacher Lexter L. Moreno
Teaching Date: October 18, 2023
Learning Competencies and Objectives

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Identify situations in which work is done and in which no work is done;

2. Describe how work is related to power and energy;
3. Differentiate potential and kinetic energy;
4. Calculate the amount of work, kinetic energy, and potential energy; and
5. Appreciate the importance of work, energy, and power in real–life scenarios.

ELICIT (5 MINUTES) MATERIALS

1. Daily Routine.
2. Review of the previous lesson.

PPT Slide
Ask the students, what is the first thing that comes into their mind when Video Presentation
they hear the word “WORK”.
Show a video clip about work.
Subject Integration: ESP
ENGAGE (10 MINUTES)

ACTIVITY 1 – PICTURE PERFECT!

Show the students an illustration to analyze if the situation represents

examples of work. They should be able to identify the one doing the work PPT Slide
and on which object the work is not done. They should also look into the
direction of the force exerted relative to the movement of the object or the
distance covered.
Refer to Attachment A
Subject Integration: ENGLISH
EXPLORE (GROUP ACTIVITY- 15 MINUTES)

ACTIVITY 2: MINUTE TO WIN IT!

Divide the class into groups. They will be given the same equation to
compute for work.

PPT SLIDE

Each group will have to calculate the amount of work for each given
illustration during the start of the activity. These illustrations are given
values on force and distance covered.

Refer to Attachment B
Subject Integration: TLE
EXPLAIN (10 MINUTES)
Let the students present their answers. Clarify to the students that Work is PPT Slide
a method of transferring energy. It is not force that is transferred when
work is done. Energy is the ability to do work. Talk about Kinetic (energy
in motion) and Potential Energy (stored energy). Emphasize that the
energy of an object enables it to do work. A moving object has KE while an
object about a specified level has energy due to its position called PE.
Power is the rate of doing work or the rate of using energy.
ACTIVITY 3: KINETIC ENERGY OR POTENTIAL ENERGY?

Direction: Identify the following pictures whether it is Kinetic Energy

or Potential Energy.

Subject Integration: MAPEH

ELABORATE (5 MINUTES)
PPT Slide
ACTIVITY 4: FINDING KE AND PE!

1. A 1000 kg car has a velocity of 17 m/s. What is the car’s kinetic energy?

2. What is the potential energy of an 8 kg object to a height of 14m?

Refer to attachment C
Subject Integration: Mathematics
EVALUATE (10 MINUTES)

PPT Slide/ Questionaire

Directions: Write your answer in the space provided before each number.
_______________1. We say that ______ is done when a force is exerted
through a distance and that the force applied must move the object in the
same direction as the force.
_______________2. It is the ability to do work.
_______________3. It is referred to as stored energy.
_______________4. It is referred to as the energy in motion.
_______________5. It is the rate of doing work.

PROBLEM SOLVING: (5 PTS.)

1. How much work is done if an object is pushed to a distance of 10m
using a force of 400N?(1)
2. What is the potential energy of a 4kg object to a height of 8m?(2PTS.)
3. A 1000kg car has a velocity of 25m/s. What is the car's kinetic energy?
(2PTS)

Refer to attachment D
EXTEND (5 MINUTES)
Ticket out the door:
 Before they can leave, reconvene the group and ask for one
volunteer to define work, energy, and power in their own words.
 Ask for another volunteer to differentiate Kinetic Energy and
Potential Energy.
 Ask for volunteer to express his/her opinion on how work,
power and energy related.
 Ask a student to relay his/her idea/s on the importance of work,
power and energy in our everyday life.
