ADDIE Checklist

The document describes the ADDIE model, which is a process used by training designers and developers to create instructional materials and programs. It consists of five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. In the Analysis phase, designers clarify training needs and requirements. In the Design phase, objectives and assessments are determined. In the Development phase, materials like lesson plans and tutorials are created. In the Implementation phase, the training program is delivered to learners. Finally, in the Evaluation phase, the effectiveness of the training is assessed.

ADDIE

Checklist

When creating training programs, training designers and developers follow five broad
activities—analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation—called ADDIE.

Analysis encompasses the tasks

Analysis required to clarify the need driving the
training request and define the
requirements that the training program
should achieve.

Through design, you determine how to

Design develop the skills identified in the
objectives and prepare learners to
apply those skills in the ways that the
tests assess

Development is when you convert

Development design plans to reality. For classroom-
based training programs, you develop
lesson plans, slides, handouts, etc. For
self-study programs, you develop
workbooks or online tutorials that
learners can take with little or minimal
assistance from another person, as well
as readings and guides for tutors.

After developing the materials, you

Implementation make the training program available to
the intended learners.

Evaluation involves assessing whether

Evaluation the training program achieved its goals.
Evaluation is an ongoing process rather
than a one-time event

ANALYSIS

Who are the learners?

What are their learning styles or learning behaviors

What are the target audience’s performance gaps? Or what is the knowledge problem?

Is the performance gap indeed a problem that could be solved with a training (online or
classroom)?

What are the objectives and the contents of the course?

What evaluation methods are you going to use? What resources are available?

What are some of the possible course constraints? (If applicable)

What is the budget for this course?

DESIGN

How will you present the content?

How will the learning experiences be presented, including identifying sections/units’

specific learning objectives?

What elements will you include in your course? Examples: text, animation, graphics,
video, multimedia elements, resources, etc.

Is the content arranged in a logical sequence, according to the learning objectives?

What assessment plan are you putting in place to demonstrate how learners will be
tested?

What training course prerequisites are there, including technical?

DEVELOPMENT
Have you included in your lesson plan the following elements:
⬜ Attention grabbing?

⬜ presentation of content?

⬜ integration of new knowledge and skills?

⬜ real-world application and review?

What learning materials do you need to prepare?

How do you make sure you add stretching, yet not too challenging tasks?

What’s needed to attain learning objectives?

What’s needed to perform tasks, activities, and criterion-referenced tests?

What learning resources are needed for each learning objectives?

What online content you need to prepare (if any for classroom training)?

What media and equipment will you need?

What training medium and learning experiences will reflect real-world environment as
close as possible?

Tip! Conduct a pilot test, if possible.

IMPLEMENTATION
What steps do you need to take to implement the course?

What would be the most appropriate way to monitor the delivery of the course?

What would be the most appropriate way to monitor learners’ reaction to content,
materials, activities, facilitators, etc.?

What would be the most appropriate way to collect feedback (survey, email, or other
media) to validate content accuracy and completeness, teaching methods, and
communication approach?

EVALUATION
How can you ensure to review all A.D.D.I.E. elements?

What is the most appropriate way to evaluate reaction to the training and learners’
ability to attain the learning objectives?

What do you need in order to review and analyse feedback from learners on their
satisfaction and immediate reactions and analyse results achieved on learning?

What would be the most appropriate way to measure the long-term changes in
learners’ behaviours?

What would be the most appropriate way to measure the return on investment from the
online course?
