A more detailed description of these different sections can be found on the next pages.

The main research question that you will be investigating is: “Are transport facilities in your
region sufficient for all groups in society and what are the traffic safety issues experienced by
these different groups?”

You will try to answer this research question by gaining multiple perspectives through
interviewing different stakeholders. Your survey must include people of different incomes and
age groups.

The interviews with your classmates/schoolmates may also be swapped for a survey among
an equal amount of students. If you do so, please also explain the following in your end-
product:
• How did you invite people to respond
• How many people have been invited?
• What was the response rate?
• Which group member(s) designed the questions and sent out the questionnaire?
• Which platform have you used (mail, social media, SurveyMonkey, others?)
• Who has processed the results?

4
1.DEFINING YOUR RESEARCH AREA

Define the region you will investigate in about 5 sentences. Then design a map (either digitally
or on paper) of your region and include its transportation networks. Digitalize the image in
JPG format and add it to your end product.

Add a minimum of 5 pictures of public and private means of transport in your area.
Add a minimum of two pictures of traffic safety issues in your area.

2.INTERVIEWS WITH ADULTS AND CLASS MATES

Interview 5 adults out of which some own a private car and some travel by public transport.
Interview 10 of your class mates about their travel habits.

Use the interview questions below as a guideline:

1. What modes of transportation do you typically use?

2. What determines your choice for certain modes of transportation?
3. Are you satisfied with the local infrastructure for different modes of transportation?
(e.g. quality and availability of roads for cars/bikes, quality and availability of public
transport, etc.)
4. How do people in your region usually travel to and from their school or place of work?
5. Do local modes of transportation suit the needs of the people in your region?
6. What are the fastest and most convenient modes of transportation in your region?
7. Are the costs of different modes of transportation in your region reasonable? What are
some of the cheapest modes of transportation; what are the most expensive ones? Are
those reasonable prices/fares according to you?
8. Is it common for people to share private means of transportation (e.g. car-pooling) in
your region? Why/why not?

How to report:

• Summarize each of the five interviews with an adult individually in about 200 words.

• Summarize the 10 interviews with classmates together in about 200 words.

• Make sure to mention the first name, age and profession of each adult you
interviewed.

• Optional: you could summarize the results gathered in your interviews in graphs. If you
are using graphs to present the results, make sure they are easy to understand.

• Optional: you could summarize your interviews by creating a short video or recording
of each interview. Make sure to ask the interviewees for permission to record!
Restrict every video to a maximum of two minutes and make sure to also
include a written summary of the interview. Add subtitles to the videos.
5
3.INTERVIEW WITH THE LOCAL POLICE

You need to conduct an interview with a police officer about the local traffic situation.

1. What traffic safety problems are common to this area?

2. Are there any traffic issues that are specific to certain (age) groups in society?

3. What, do you think, are the best ways the police can promote a safe and efficient
traffic environment for everyone?

4. Think of 3 other questions you can ask to get to know more about the local traffic
situation and the role of the police.

Note: You are allowed to create your own interview questions, as long as they are relevant to
the project. You can receive bonus points for this.

How to report:

• Summarize the interview with a police officer in about 200 words.

4.CONCLUSION

In this section, you will draw a conclusion based on your research and comparison. Your
conclusion should contain about 200 words. Answer the main research question: “Are
transport facilities in your region sufficient for all groups in society and what are the traffic
safety issues experienced by these different groups”.

1. Is there a clear conclusion to be drawn from your findings that can answer the main
research question?
2. Include a recommendation for the smooth and safe functioning of local transport and
traffic services.

5.AWARENESS ACTIVITY (OPTIONAL)

Conduct an activity in your school to spread awareness regarding transport and traffic safety
for extra bonus points. Think of ways to promote maintaining traffic rules and reaching the
destination safe and sound. Make a poster, a video clip, a song for the school assembly, etc.
Be creative! You can receive a maximum of 5 bonus points for this.
