CHARACTER OR FONT FORMATTING IN MICROSOFT WORD:


1. Open Microsoft Word:
o Launch Microsoft Word on your computer.
2. Create or Open a Document:
o Either create a new document or open an existing one where you want to apply
character or font formatting.
3. Select Text:
o Click and drag to select the text you want to format. Alternatively, place the
cursor where you want to start and hold down the shift key while using the
arrow keys to make a selection.
4. Go to the "Home" Tab:
o Navigate to the "Home" tab in the top menu bar. This is where you'll find
various character formatting options.
5. Font Typeface: It refers to the specific design or style of the characters in a font.
Example: Arial, Times New Roman, and Calibri are different
o In the "Font" group, use the "Font" dropdown menu to select the desired
typeface (e.g., Arial).
6. Font Size:It determines how large or small the characters appear in a document.
Example: Font size is measured in points (e.g., 12pt, 16pt).
o Use the "Font Size" dropdown menu to choose the desired font size (e.g.,
14pt).
7. Font Style:It includes attributes like bold, italic, underline, and
strikethrough.Example: Italic, Bold, and Underlined are different font styles
o Utilize the "B" for bold, "I" for italic, and "U" for underline buttons to apply
these styles to the selected text.
8. Font Color:It refers to the color of the characters in a document. Example: Text can
be black, red, blue, or any other color.
o Click on the "A" with a colored underline (Font Color) to choose a color for
the selected text.
9. Underline Style, Strikethrough, Subscript, Superscript:
Underline Style and Color: It includes variations in the style and color of underlined
text.Example: Dotted underline or red underline for corrections.
Strikethrough: It involves drawing a horizontal line through the middle of
characters.Example: This is strikethrough text.
Subscript and Superscript: Subscript lowers text below the baseline, while
superscript raises it above.Example: H₂O (subscript), E=mc² (superscript).

o Explore additional options in the "Font" group for underline style,


strikethrough, subscript, and superscript.
10. Character Spacing:It involves adjusting the space between characters. Example:
Increased or decreased letter spacing for aesthetic reasons.
o For more advanced formatting, click on the small arrow in the bottom right
corner of the "Font" group to open the "Font" dialog box. Here, you can adjust
character spacing and explore additional options.
11. Preview and Confirm:
o Preview your formatted text in the document. If satisfied, confirm the changes.
12. Save Document:
o Save your document to retain the formatting changes.

PARAGRAPH FORMATTING IN MICROSOFT WORD:


1. Open Microsoft Word:
o Launch Microsoft Word on your computer.
2. Create or Open a Document:
o Either create a new document or open an existing one where you want to apply
paragraph formatting.
3. Select Paragraphs:
o Click and drag to select the paragraphs you want to format. Alternatively,
place the cursor within a paragraph to format a specific one.
4. Go to the "Home" Tab:
o Navigate to the "Home" tab in the top menu bar. This is where you'll find
various paragraph formatting options.
5. Text Alignment:
o In the "Paragraph" group, use the alignment buttons (left-align, center, right-
align, justify) to set the desired text alignment.

6. Line Spacing:
o In the "Paragraph" group, use the line spacing dropdown to select single, 1.5
lines, double, or customize the line spacing.

7. Tabs:
o Click on the horizontal ruler above your document to set tabs. You can also
access tab settings by clicking on the "Tabs" button in the "Paragraph" group.

8. Indents:
o Adjust paragraph indents using the indent markers on the horizontal ruler or
by using the "Increase Indent" and "Decrease Indent" buttons in the
"Paragraph" group.

9. Bullets & Numbering:


o Use the "Bullets" and "Numbering" buttons in the "Paragraph" group to apply

10. Borders & Shading:


o Click on the "Borders" and "Shading" buttons in the "Paragraph" group to add
borders or background shading to selected paragraphs.

11. Paragraph Spacing:


o Use the "Before" and "After" spacing options in the "Paragraph" group to
adjust spacing above and below paragraphs.

12. Additional Options:


o Explore additional paragraph formatting options in the "Paragraph" dialog
box, accessible by clicking the small arrow in the bottom right corner of the
"Paragraph" group. Here, you can find options like widow/orphan control,

DOCUMENT OR PAGE FORMATTING IN MICROSOFT WORD:


1. Open Microsoft Word:

o Navigate to the "Page Layout" tab in the top menu bar.

number of columns for your document. You can choose one, two, or more
columns.

9. Line Numbers:
o Explore the "Line Numbers" option in the "Page Setup" group to add line
numbers to your document if needed.

10. Page Borders:


o In the "Page Setup" group, click on the "Page Borders" option to add or
customize borders around the pages.
11. Page Color:
o Set the background color of your document by clicking on "Page Color" in the
"Page Setup" group.

12. Page Layout Options:


o Click on the small arrow in the bottom right corner of the "Page Setup" group
to open the "Page Setup" dialog box. Here, you can find more advanced

FORMATTING SECTIONS WITH SECTION BREAKS:


1. Open Microsoft Word:

2. Create or Open a Document:
o Either create a new document or open an existing one where you want to apply
section formatting.
3. Navigate to the Desired Location:
o Move the cursor to the location in your document where you want to start a
new section or apply different formatting.
4. Go to the "Page Layout" Tab:
o Navigate to the "Page Layout" tab in the top menu bar.
5. Insert Section Break:
o In the "Page Setup" group, locate and click on the "Breaks" dropdown.

6. Choose Section Break Types:


o From the dropdown menu, select the type of section break you need. Common
options include:
 Next Page: Starts the new section on the next page.
 Continuous: Starts the new section on the same page.
 Even Page/Odd Page: Starts the new section on the next even or odd-
numbered page.

7. Apply Formatting to the New Section:


o After inserting a section break, you can now apply different formatting to the
new section. For example, adjust margins, page orientation, or columns.
8. Repeat as Needed:
o If your document requires more than one type of section formatting, repeat the
process by placing the cursor where you want to start another section, and
insert a section break.
9. Modify Headers and Footers:
o Sections can have different headers and footers. Double-click in the header or
footer area of the section you want to modify, and make changes as needed.
10. Delete Section Breaks:
o To delete a section break, click on it to select it, and press the "Delete" key. Be
cautious, as this action will merge the two sections into one with continuous
formatting.
11. Page Numbering in Sections:
o If you want each section to have its own page numbering, go to the header or
footer of the section, click on "Page Number," and select the desired format.

12. Preview and Confirm:


o Preview your document to ensure that section formatting changes are applied
correctly.
13. Save Document:
o Save your document to retain the section formatting changes.
