SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
A. Enumerate the three type of boundaries;
B. Distinguish the different geologic features of each type of plate boundaries; and
C. Differentiate the three types of plate boundaries.

II. Subject matter:

Lesson/Topic: The different types of plate boundaries (S9ES-Ia-j-36.2)

References: Science 10 module 4

Materials: Power point Presentation

Values integration: Shared decision making

III. Learning Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Opening prayer
2. Greetings
3. Review
-Review about the Plate Tectonic Theory.
4. Motivation

Watch a short Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edb7FMcGrAE&t=39s

B. Development of the Lesson:

1. Presentation

a. How does Earthquake forms?

b. Explain how movement of plate creates earthquakes?

2. Discussion

Plate Boundaries are the edges where two plates meet.

a. Divergent Boundaries refer to plates that separate and move apart in opposite
directions.

b. Convergent Boundaries are formed when two plates move toward (collide) at each
other.

c. Transform Fault Boundaries occurs when two plates are sliding past or grinding parallel
to each other.
3. Generalization

1. What are the three types of plate boundaries?

2. Identify the following geologic features according to the type of plate boundary:
a. Mountain ranges
b. Mid-ocean Ridge
c. Rift Valley
d. Volcanic arc
e. Subduction
f. San Andreas Fault
3. Differentiate the three types of plate boundaries?

4. Application

Title of Activity: Identifying Plate Boundaries

Direction: Study the figure below then do what is being asked in the following parts of the
activity.

Give at least 2 pairs of plates that correspond on each type of plate boundary.

A. Convergent
1. _________ &_____ ______ 2. _______ __& _______ ___
B. Divergent
1. _________ &_____ ______ 2. _______ __& _______ ___
C. Transform-fault
1 _________ &_____ ______ 2. _______ __& _______ ___
IV. Evaluation

Directions: Read each item carefully, and write the letter of the best answer on a
separate sheet of paper.

1. What type of plate boundary formed when a plate slide past each other?
A. Convergent C. Subduction
B. Divergent D. Transform fault

2. What is the type of plate boundary that moves toward each other?
A. Convergent C. Subduction
B. Divergent D. Transform fault

3. What is the type of boundary that moves apart at each other?

A. Convergent C. Subduction
B. Divergent D. Transform fault
4. Seafloor spreading occurs in what type of boundary?
A. Convergent Boundary C. Subduction Zone
B. Divergent Boundary D. Transform Fault Boundary

5. Plate Tectonic Theory states that continents are moving to their current position in
what manner?
A. Horizontally C. Slowly
B. Quickly D. Vertically

V. Assignment
Tell Me Who I Am

Direction: Complete the Relative Motion of Plates Geologic Features/Events

table below by following the (Moving away, Moving towards Presents
example. Types of Plate or Sliding past each other)
Boundaries
1. Convergent
a. Continental-Continental Ex. Moving Toward Ex. Mountain Ranges
