Thesis CH 6

The document discusses noise absorbing materials and noise control in buildings. It analyzes four types of panel absorbers - pyramid soundproof foam board, SCG soundproof Zandera board, SCG soundproof smart board, and egg soundproof foam board. Testing showed Zandera board absorbs 75% of sound, making it the most suitable material for a convocation hall. The conclusions determine Zandera board is the most effective but also expensive, while egg foam board is a suitable cheaper alternative. Recommendations include using both Zandera and smart boards, and exploring DIY and natural soundproofing techniques.

CHAPTER 6

DISCUSSIONS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMEMDATIONS

6.1 Discussions

The primary purpose of this study is to get knowledge about the differences of
noise absorbing materials and noise control of buildings. There are three types of
absorbing materials such as power absorbers, panel absorbers, and resonators. Among
them, we focused on panel absorbers to control and lessen the effect of the noise. In
this case, we studied four types of noise absorbing materials such as pyramid
soundproof foam board, SCG soundproof Zandera board, SCG soundproof smart
board and egg soundproof foam board. A sponge type material absorbs sound and a
fiber cement type material keeps sound from the room. We considered convocation
hall at TU Magway as a soundproofing hall for our thesis. To get some light for
convocation hall, doors and fanlights are not considered for soundproofing. We
estimated the material and labor costs by using common thickness of above four types
of materials. Egg soundproof foam board absorbs 49% of sound, pyramid soundproof
foam board absorbs 45% of sound and zandera board absorbs 75% of sound. In this
materials, zandera board is suitable and a good noise absorbing materials for
convocation hall. If we use noise absorbing materials, we should install the whole
area of the room. So, we can get better sound quality and keep in the good noise.
Another way, we must install the area near source of sound and the corner that are the
most reflected area of the sound. This way is convenience but we cannot control
better sound quality.

6.2 Conclusions

In this thesis, SCG Zandera Board is the most effective noise absorbing
material and it’s cost is very expensive. But Egg Soundproof Foam Board is a suitable
noise absorbing materials for normal soundproofing room because it is easy to install
and it is the lowest cost material.

6.3 Recommendations
1. We recommended to use both SCG Soundproof Smart Board and STC
Soundproof Zandera Board.
2. We encourage DIY sound absorbing materials inventions and natural
soundproofing techniques.
