I. Points for reflection

1. Are teacher leaders important? Why? Or why not?

 Yes, teacher leader is important as a teacher's role is to lead as an example in the way they act,
speak and behave. They lead their students through challenging and rigorous learning. Teacher
leadership plays big role in improving student's performances as they should manifests
continuous engagement, shows commitment and open to new knowledge and different views
and have strong focus on growth.

2. Who are the teachers that you consider as leader?

 The teachers that I consider as leader are those teachers who exhibit leadership qualities and
have management function. These teachers who are not just facilitating learning but also have
administrative functions. They also have the characteristics of collaboration, passion,
engagement. sharing of best practices, taking action and role modeling. For me, I consider
teacher leaders those principals, directors, and other school heads.

3. What do you consider as their remarkable characteristics or traits that make them teacher leader?

 I consider the following as their remarkable characteristics or traits that can make them teacher
leader are the collaboration, planner, engager, driven, focus, encourager, and have the
empowerment.

4. As a future teacher, how will you make yourself a leader in your own right?

 As a future teacher, I will make myself a leader in my own right by learning and developing
myself an efficient and effective teacher leader. This means I must learn that a good leader can
greatly impact the success of student's learning. To be an effective leader, I must understand my
own motivations, strength and weaknesses. As a great leader, I should connect with the class by
facilitating open communication, encouraging students growth and development and set goals
to achieve.

 Mr. Jacobs says teacher leaders are characterized by their ability to lead others in every role
they hold at their school. "Teacher leadership is leading within and beyond the classroom.
Teachers can be leaders as they model best practices.
What qualities do you think teacher leaders should possess?

 The qualities that teacher should possess is the communication skill because communicate
effectively, take initiative and share your expertise are among a few skills that distinguish
teacher leaders.

B. Compare your findings with the definitions given on Teacher Leadership. What can you conclude?
Write your own definition of teacher leadership.

 It is a set of roles bundled with the motivation to inspire educational change and move beyond
the status quo in collaborative ways. Teacher leaders lead alongside others, not from the front.
They have their feet firmly planted in the classroom and their eyes on what is possible for all.

I. Points for Reflection:

1. Do you think that teachers can maximize students' learning? If yes, why? If no, why not?

 Yes, I think teachers can maximize student's learning. It is because teachers are the implementer
of the curriculum and so they are knowledgeable to align all the resources they need to ensure
the achievement of student's learning in the existing practices. The teacher has the capacity to
use all the resources by be creative to facilitate learning. They should be flexible to conform to
all the changes to work forward the achievement of student's learninig.

2. How can teachers maximize students' learning?

 Teachers can maximize students learning by leaming to be flexible, innovative and creative to
choose strategies and use resources in teaching. Teacher should have leadership practices to
promote student's learning. These are setting directions which teacher should give the sense of
direction and purpose that they must cope up with the schools shared vision. There's also the
developing people which entails the teachers the need of the development. They must work
hard to make sure student will learn in the process because a teacher is capable. Third, is the
redesigning the organization. Teacher leaders are in the position to determine the structure that
would best benefit the students. Through building a culture of collaboration, teachers and the
administrators will be able to work well in order to design the curriculum in order to students
maximize the students learning.

3. How can teacher best adopt innovative practices in teaching?

 Teacher can best adopt innovative practices in teaching by welcoming any form if innovation in
teaching. He or she must show an openness to learn, willingness to take risks and eagemess to
tryout the new reforms being introduced. They must be willing to experience the benefits of
trying new approach or methodology being introduced and in the same time share these
experiences with others. Thus, it give others the opportunity to learn from the experience and at
the same time, a motivation to try the innovations themselves.

4. Does the current educational system provide enough support to encourage innovative practices to
take place? Why? Why not?

 Yes, the current educational system provides enough support to encourage innovative practice
to take place. It is because they provide seminars and giving teachers professional development
programs that will enhance their skills and that is relevant in the present time. This will provide
the teachers a venue of new experiences and see the benefits of using the innovation in the
classroom. With this teacher leaders will see the value having a supportive environment. It will
not only provide professional guidance but also emotional support.

1. What innovative practices have you tried this year?

 The innovative practice I have tried this year, knows how to use all the internet platforms and
media to facilitate learning because of the pandemic. The pandemic have taught me and
encourage me to maximize teaching by engaging to learn to use the media online for distant
learning and continue to facilitate learning.

2. What prompted you to try it?

 The pandemic brought such problems that it affects all the sectors in the world including the
education sector. This brought the education to distant learning and by this, I must learn to
engage and learn to use all the online and internet media to still continue teaching. This will help
the students to still in the road to studying instead just providing modules.

3. Will you influence others to try this innovative practice? Why? Why Not?

 Yes, I will influence others to try this innovative practice. it is because it is the new normal in the
society and everyone is using technology to continue the life that has been affected by
pandemic.

4. If you want others to try this innovative practice, how are you going to influence others to adopt this
practice?

 I will influence others to adopt this practice because there is a need to adopt to new normal
especially in education that face to face class is impossible. It is now a need to learn the
technological advancements in teaching and delivering lessons to students. This is simply by
showing them the easy ways to facilitate learning.

1. What can you say about the reforms that are happening in education now?
 What Chris Flores says about the reform that is happening in the education right now is that it is
good because it is coping up with the global system which students able to enhance skills and be
globally competitive. The reforms in education is maximizing the student's learning and
capabilities through the new curriculum and added subjects which will basically develop and can
be used in future purposes.

2. How do these reforms impact you as a student?

 As a student, these reforms impact me by making me a student equipped for future


employment and further study, both home and abroad. These reforms give me opportunities to
compete globally by enhancing my skills and knowledge ant to cope up with their requirements
for future employment. This will provide me better experience, acquiring knowledge and
enhancing my skills and abilities.

3. As a future teacher, what are the steps that you are going to take to ensure that you will contribute
much to the development of your students?

 As a future teacher, the steps that I am going to take to ensure that I will contribute much
development of my students, are making myself educated, capable of teaching students by
gaining more skills, broaden my experience. acquiring new knowledge and develop proficiency
to become affective and efficient teacher.

1. Do you think that the challenges mentioned in the study of Johnson and Donaldson in 2007, and
Oracion in 2015 are still prevalent in schools? Why? Why not?

 Yes, True teacher leadership connects teachers and principals in their shared mission: improving
learning for students. We know that the most important factor in a child's education is the
teacher, when we invite and include expert teachers in improving the learning environment
throughout the school, we aren't removing our best teachers from the classrooms to become
administrators. Instead, we are extending their reach. In this issue of Professional Practices for
the 21 st Century Leader, I explore the idea of shared leadership embedded in Professional
Standards for Education Leaders (PSEL) Standard 7: Professional Community for Teachers and
Staff

2. Can you think of other challenges that teacher leaders face?

 With additional responsibilities and little extra time, teachers are often forced to make sacrifices
that compromise their ability to be effective in both roles. A lack of support and encouragement
from school administrators and teaching colleagues often poses the biggest obstacles for
teacher leaders

3. How can schools better address the challenges?

 Transforming schools system with high technology-enabled automation tools to support the
academic and administrative processes will make it easy to achieve their goals. To succeed in
everyday tasks of schools, there is an emerging demand to modernize public education system
with cloud, mobile and digital technologies to improve operational efficiency and manage the
institution effectively.

II. Interview a teacher leader. Ask her the following questions:

1. What prompted you to assume a leadership role?

 Having a mission for your team or organization is the best reason there is for wanting to be a
leader. The best leaders put most of their time and energy into helping other people be
successful, by making connections, giving feedback, and providing the resources they need.

2. What are the challenges that you encountered?

Here are the challenges that I encountered:

 Miscommunication between my fellow teachers and clashes of ideas opinions.


 Inactive participation and support of parents and other stakeholders
 Lack of budget to support the needs of the school, teachers and learners.

3. How were you able to overcome these challenges?

 I overcome these challenges by becoming a leader who is open-minded; I am learning to be


active and cooperative. Follow the advices of your superior. Have the faith to surpass all the
challenges with the help of our most high God.

1. How do you think schools should support teachers to become leaders?

 Schools should support teachers to become leaders by giving them opportunities to experience
new things for development. It is by giving them seminars and other development programs
that will help them to become proficient and effective teachers to leaders. For teachers to be
effective leaders, they need principals to support them, place them in leadership positions that
match their skills. talents, and personality traits; and give them opportunities for professional
development so that they can increase their efficacy.
2. Do you think that the present educational system support the development of teacher leaders? If yes,
why? If no, why not?

 Yes, for me, the present educational system supports the development of teachers leaders. It is
because there are new reforms in the education system where it enhances the curriculum.
Which means teacher are also need to enhance. level up their abilities and skills to fit in the
requirements of new education system. There's a lot of seminars, building programs for better
development of teachers leaders.

II. Interview a school administrator and ask the following questions:

1. Does the school have programs that will empower teachers to become leaders? If yes, what are these
programs? If none, why not?

 Yes, the school does have programs that will empower teachers to become leaders such as
INSET (Inservice Training), PPSTA, Yearly RPMS and opportunities for promotion.

2. What can administrators do to encourage teachers to take on leadership roles?

 Administrators can encourage teachers to take on leadership roles is to support professional


learning communities so that leaders can network supporting charismatic environments where
leaders are both energized and inspired to share what works and what doesn't, will not only
reinforce a culture of collaboration but will also expand your leader's impact. Share the load and
avoid burn out-creating ample and varied leadership opportunities. appropriately matching
leaders to tasks, and sharing the load distributes responsibilities in manageable, collaborative
doses.

Activity 5

I. Points to Ponder:

1. How can schools in the Philippines develop teachers to become teacher leaders?

 Schools in the Philippines can develop teachers to become teacher leaders through the
leadership development program. The leadership program for Filipino teachers is part of
Australia's broader support to government reform. The initiative falls under the human resource
development and institutional strengthening program administered through the Philippines-
Australia Human Resource and Organizational Development Facility.

2. Do you think it is possible for schools in the Philippines to have a leadership plan? Why? Why not?

 Yes, I think it is possible for schools in the Philippines to have a leadership plan. It is because
having a leadership plan in different schools is important. School leaders, particularly principals,
have a key role to play in setting direction and creating a positive school culture including the
proactive school mindset, and supporting and enhancing staff motivation and commitment
needed to foster improvement and promote success for schools in challenging circumstances.

II. Interview a school administrator. Ask them to share with you their teacher leadership program.

 Noel Sagayap
 Our school has a leadership program based on the DepEd organisation structure and ag
program.Such a program is also extended to students by conducting virtual
leadership and characterdevelopment training for student leaders. The virtual training
aims to capacitate young student leaders and develop their leadership skills and character
amid distance learning set-ups.
 There is no specific leadership program for teachers but teachers are being designated as
clubmoderators and heads of differentoffices which makes them leaders on their own.
 The impact of teachers' leadership in our country's educational reforms is that they have a
greatpart in whatever reforms our educational system. When a teacher has a good
leadership, anychanges will be smooth and easy.

III. Based on your interview, what do you think is the impact of teacher leadership in the country's
educational reforms?

 According to our interview, the impact of teacher leadership in the country's educational reform
isthat teacher leaders are an important component in spreading and strengthening school
reforms andimprovements because they instil courage to face obstacles and achieve the
school's mission andvision.

I. Point to Ponder:

As a future teacher, do you think that you will be able to accept leadership responsibilities? Why? Why
not?

 As a future teacher, I think I can able to accept leadership abilities. In the first hand, the
teacher's main role is to lead the students to achieve goals of acquiring learning. Basically, I am
trained to become a leader to be professional, efficient, and effective teacher. As a future leader
is to lead students to path of success. setting directions and pave them the way to aim the goal
for student's learning. Leadership starts in the small group. I am motivated and guided by the
mission and vision to achieving the goals to become future educator.

II. Interview a teacher leader. Ask them about their journey toward teacher leadership. What phase or
stage are they at this point in time. Explain your answer.

 Mrs. Marian Brace - As a teacher leader, I must be adaptable to any changes that occur
in.our educational system. It isalso important to be adaptive and positive in responding
for their opportunity to improve teachingskills and learn in order to help students
increase their learning and achieve their professional career.
