5. A rocket is projected straight up and explodes into three equally massive fragments just as it
reaches the top of its flight (refer figure). One of the fragments is observed to come straight down
in 2 sec, while the other two take 4 sec to come to ground, after the burst. Find the height
h (in m) at which the fragmentation occurred.

6. A thin uniform rod of length L and mass m = 1.6 kg is free to rotate about a smooth axis which
passes through its edge A. A point mass m is shot horizontally at a velocity of v0 towards the
opposite edge of the rod (point B). When it hits the rod, it sticks to it. What is the magnitude of
the vertical component of force (in N) applied by the axis on the rod in the horizontal state?

7. A 50 kg block at A is mounted on rollers so that it moves along the horizontal rails with negligible

Collision may be defined as the impact of one moving body on another body moving or stationary.
Linear momentum is conserved in all type of collision. In elastic collision kinetic energy after
collision is equal to kinetic energy before collision.

A nucleus V of mass 2m moving with velocity u collides inelastically with a stationary nucleus W
of mass 10m. After collision the nucleus V travels at 90° with the incident direction while W

proceeds at an angle 37° with the incident direction. Answer the following questions based upon
above information.

A small block of mass m = 0.2 kg is released from rest at point A at height h = 1 m above the
ground. It slides down the track as shown in the figure. It reaches the point B with speed
vB = 4 m/s. From point B it slides on horizontal portion a distance d = 1 m to point C, which is the
bottom of a vertical circular loop of radius r = 0.18 m. This circular section of track (C, D, E) is
frictionless and the remaining portion (A, B, C) is rough with uniform friction coefficient.
