Master data management provides opportunities to use data
for analytical and operational purposes with greater accuracy
Master data management (MDM) provides a single consolidated and accurate view
of an organization’s most valuable data assets.

Master data drives practical insights that arise from key
aspects of the business

Why Manage Master Data?

1 Customer Intimacy
Improve marketing and the customer experience by using the right data from the system of record to analyze complete
customer views of transactions, sentiments, and interactions.

2 Innovation Leadership
Gain insights on your products, services, usage trends, industry directions, and competitor results, and use these data
artifacts to support decisions on innovations, new products, services, and pricing.

3 Risk Management
Maintain more transparent and accurate records and ensure that appropriate rules are followed to support audit,
compliance, regulatory, and legal requirements. Monitor data usage to avoid fraud.

4 Operational Excellence
Make sure the right solution is delivered rapidly and consistently to the right parties for the right price and cost structure.
Automate processes by using the right data to drive process improvements.

Well-managed master data, the key dimension around which analytics are done, can provide a
single, reliable, and precise view of the organization.

Finding a single source of truth throughout the organization
can be difficult

Data is created by many different sources, in many different locations, and

changed often. Having a unified view of the definitions and systems of record
for the most critical data in your organization can be difficult to achieve.

Use Info-Tech’s master data management roadmap to craft a
successful MDM strategy
It takes organization and preparation to take on the huge task that is MDM. The best way to
stay on track is to create a practical roadmap that can be followed by the team and leaders
involved with the project.

Following the steps below throughout this template will transform it into your
organization’s most critical resource while you take on MDM.

1. Create a list of initiatives using Info-Tech’s MDM Initiative Planning Tool.

2. Start your roadmap by documenting the organization’s vision and mission for use of master
data. This will help you to keep the big picture in mind as you tackle the more granular aspects
of the project.
3. Summarize the context around MDM in the organization’s current state. Having greater
understanding of where the organization currently stands in terms of its data and the
challenges you face will help minimize roadblocks in the strategy.
4. Outline goals and risks of the program.
5. Document some key initiatives and the details about how the challenges with those specific
initiatives will be overcome. Also document the benefits of the initiatives for the business.
6. Create your roadmap by estimating the timing for each initiative, and prioritize the initiatives in
order to populate the roadmap with critical initiatives.
