M3 Day 1 - Number Patterns

1) The numbers in the pattern increase by 2, 3, 4, repeating, with the missing numbers being 10 and 21. The sum of the missing numbers is 31. 2) The 25th number will be 73, as every 3 numbers the value increases by 9, and 24 numbers need to be added. 3) The smallest and largest 3-digit numbers from the digits are 102 and 976, so the difference is 874.

Answer Key

1. The numbers follow the same rule.

1, 3, 6, , 12, 15, 19, , 24, 28 - - - - - -

+2 +3 +4 +2 +3 +4 +2 +3 +4

= 6 + 4 = 10
= 19 + 2 = 21

+ = 10 + 21 = 31

Answer: A

2. 2 + 3 + 4 = 9
Every 3 numbers, the number increases by 9.
To get to the 25th number, we need 24 more numbers.
24 ÷ 3 = 8
9 x 8 = 72
The 1st number is 1. Therefore, the 25th number will be 1 + 72 = 73.

Answer: A

3. Making the smallest 3-digit number:

0 cannot be in the 100s place, therefore we use 1 in the 100s place.
Then, we can put 0 in the 10s place and put 2 in the 1s place.
The smallest digit number is 102.

Making the biggest 3-digit number:

Put 9 in the 100s place, 7 in the 10s place, and 6 in the 1s place.
The biggest 3-digit number is 976.

976 – 102 = 874

4. In the 1s place, 5 + C = 12. Therefore, C = 7

1 1 1
7

After replacing C with 7, we can find out the other alphabets.

7 + 1 + B = 16, therefore B = 8
1 + 8 + A = 13, therefore A = 4
(A + B) – C = (4 + 8) – 7 = 5

Answer: D

5. To find the path, we only need to multiply the 1s place value of each number in the box by 4 and then
find the number which 1s place value of the product is 2.
