VOLUNTEERING
Greensward Academy January 2020 – March 2020

Maths Tutor

 Tutor Maths to less fortunate GCSE students after school hours, teaching both higher and
foundation Maths.
 Acquired skills such as being able to communicate effectively and teach younger students.
Learned how to use different teaching techniques for students with different academic abilities.
 Received positive feedback from students’ teachers and parents, noting that overall motivation
and engagement in class had improved.

WORK EXPERIENCE
 Private Tutoring February 2020 – May 2020

-Private Maths and Science tutoring to GCSE students in my neighborhood (online and in
person)

-Adapted to lockdown by using apps such as Microsoft Teams and Discord to teach online.

-I also have four younger brothers that I would plan lessons and experiments for over lockdown,
when access to education through their school was restricted.

ACHIEVEMENTS

 Position of Head Boy at Greensward Academy Sixth Form.

-this involved forming a student board that voiced students’ opinions and allowed me to implement
their innovative ideas (such as creating the after-school science club). I also wrote and presented
speeches in front of assemblies, and other events such as a holocaust memorial service at Mill and Arts
Centre, Rayleigh, Essex. This role was important for my growth as it pushed me out of my comfort zone,
and familiarized me with public speaking, planning, and working as a team.

 Winning Team of the 2017 AET Maths Challenge

-this involved problem solving and critical thinking under pressure and time constraints. The format of
this challenge meant that being able to assign roles to different teammates and being able to adapt to
changing circumstances was essential to getting top scores.
