Assign REG Bba

This document contains 5 questions involving simple linear regression analysis. Question 1 asks to plot data on sugar conversion at different temperatures and fit a linear regression model. Question 2 involves estimating a linear regression of son's height based on father's height. Question 3 deals with combining weights of coins and boxes and applying linear regression. Question 4 gives partial data to determine estimated regression equations. Question 5 provides wage data by age to estimate and interpret a regression line.

ASSIGNMENT

Q#1: A study was made on the amount of converted sugar in a certain classes at various
temperatures. The data was recorded as follows:
Temperature: xi 1.0 1.1 1.5 1.2 1.3 1.5 1.6 1.7 1.8 1.9 2
Converted sugar: yi 8.1 7.8 8.5 9.8 9.5 8.9 8.6 10.2 9.3 9.2 10.5
1. Construct the scatter plot of the data and identify the nature
2. Fit the simple linear regression equation and interpret the coefficients.

Q#2:-The following data shows the son’s height and father’s height
Father’s height(inches) 59 61 63 65 67 69 71 73 73 75

Son’s height(inches) 64 66 67 67 68 69 70 70 72 72

Estimate the linear regression of Son’s height on father’s height. Is it possible from the equation you
have just found that
(1) An estimate for the value of Y when X=70?
Q #3: Four identical money boxes contain different numbers of a particular type of coin. The
information on the combined weights is given below:
No. of coins in box: xi 5 10 15 20
Combined weight of coins and box: yi 30 50 68 86
1. Draw Scatter Plot and identify the nature of the relationship between variables.
2. Find the regression line of y on x and interpret the regression coefficients.
3. Estimate the weight of an empty box.
4. Estimate the mean weight of a single coin.

Q #4: Determine the estimated regression equation yˆ = b0 + b1 x in each of the following case:
• n=10, x i = 20 , y i = 260, x y i i = 3490 , x 2
i = 3144 ,
• n=8, x = 7, y = 5, x y i i = 364,

Q # 5: Given the data on Y = Wage/salary during the quarter X = age of household head
Y 671 2208 2115 1365 900 550 450 1248 2790

X 26 36 50 53 24 23 40 21 28
(a) Estimate the appropriate regression line and interpret its coefficients
(b) Estimate the mean salary when X = 35
