INTRODUCTION
Since the implementation of the K to12 Basic Education Curriculum in the country, emphasis had been made in the 4 Cs of the 21st
Century Skills. These are Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. They are now considered as the most
important skills for students to acquire in order to succeed in school and become ready for adult life.
Living in the 21st Century has posed more challenges to the new generation oftoday. They are confronted with problems at
all fronts – at home, at school, in their own personal lives and relationships, in their community, in their environment, and in many
other aspects of life. In reality, one does not find solutions to these problems bysimply going through the books.
Are you ready for the future? How are you going to face real-life problems whenthey happen? In this lesson, Strategic
Analysis and Intuitive Thinking, you will learnthat strategies, intuitive thinking, as well as other life skills are useful in making
important decisions.
YOUR TARGET
LEARN THIS
Your daily activities may seem like chores that you do in automatic mode. Youprobably think you
can do them with your eyes closed. However, no matter how simple a task may look like, there is still
some amount of strategizing and intuitive thinking involved in the process.
A strategy can simply be understood as a careful plan of doing things. You usestrategies to win a
game of chess or patintero. In order to win, you have to use strategic analysis to come up with the best
plans to play the game. Even in doing simple tasksat home or in school, you also have to use strategies
in order to do a good job. For example, when washing clothes, you know that you have to separate the
whites and the colored clothes or else, the whites will be ruined.
According to Meriam-Webster, intuitive thinking is a “quick and ready insight.”For example, you
know that your father drinks coffee every morning. But on this particular day, his quick and ready insight
is for hot chocolate instead of coffee. You wonder why, but he simply tells you that he just feels like having
hot chocolate. In other words, he just feels “it’s a hot chocolate kind of day.” In this scenario, the father
showsintuitive thinking. Other names or terms for intuitive thinking are intuition, inner voice, sixth sense,
gut feeling or kutob in Filipino.
Task 3
Directions: Examine the following ordinary activities. Tell whether strategy, intuitive thinking, or both are
involved in the completion of the activity. Write S forstrategy, IT for intuitive thinking, and SIT for both.
Copy and answer on your notebook.
1. cleaning the entire house 2.saving someone from drowning
3.going on an unplanned trip 4. cooking caldereta for the first time
5. putting up an online business 6.studying for a Math exam
7.breaking up a relationship 8.calling up a friend you suddenlyremembered
9. giving a large tip to a food deliverydriver 10.planning your family’s weekly menu
REMEMBER
People might not usually be aware of it, but strategic analysis and intuitive thinking are behind
our daily activities and decision-making choices.
What more is there to know about them?
Strategic analysis is a process commonly used in the business world. It usestools that help businesses
and organizations formulate strategic plans for effective decision-making. It involves doing a research of
the environment in which an organization or business operates. With the use of strategic analysis, goals
or objectives are achieved, usually leading to success.
The two types of strategic analysis are internal and external.
Internal strategic analysis is done by looking inside a business or an organization. Looking inside
means being able to identify the strengths and weaknesses or the positive and negative elements that are
present within the businessor organization. It is a careful evaluation of what is found inside.
One of the most popular techniques used for internal strategic analysis is SWOT (Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) Analysis. It is graphicallyrepresented in the matrix below:
HELPFUL HARMFUL
INTERNAL
STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
3
Here are four important points to understand about the SWOT matrix:
1. Strengths and weaknesses are internal. They are found inside a business or organization.
2. Opportunities and threats are external. They are found in the outside environmentof a business or
organization.
3. Strengths and Opportunities are helpful to a business or organization.
4. Weaknesses and strengths are harmful to a business or organization.
Once an internal strategic analysis is done, it is also time to look outside. External strategic
analysis is done by looking outside a business or organization. It means looking for external factors in
the environment which become obstacles to growth.
Task 4
Directions: Work with a classmate who is also a resident of your barangay. Take allthe necessary
precautions in doing this activity. Write your answer on separate sheet of paper.
1. Do a SWOT Analysis of your barangay by (a) using your own observations, experiences, and
knowledge; (b) conducting an informal interview with residents or barangay officials; (c) doing
additional research.
2. Start with an introduction of your barangay. Give a short description of where your barangay is
located. Include other important data.
3. Make a copy of the SWOT matrix on short bond paper.
4. Use the following guide to fill out the matrix: Write down as many answers asyou can. Your answers
may be in bullet form.
A.)What are the strengths of your barangay? (internal)
B.)What are the weaknesses of your barangay? (internal)
C.)What threats are present in your barangay? (external)
D.)What opportunities are present in your barangay? (external)
4. Once your SWOT matrix is filled with data, do a strategic analysis of your findings. Analyze how the SWOT matrix
can help you identify what factors are helpful and what factors are harmful to your barangay. Use thefollowing
guide questions in your analysis.
A.)What do you think should your barangay officials do to turn itsweaknesses into strengths? Explain.
B.)What do you think should your barangay officials do regarding thethreats faced by the
barangay and its residents? Explain.
C.)How should your barangay officials use its strengths and opportunitiesto help the barangay and its
people achieve success?
5.Present your answers to 4a, b, and c in paragraph form. Write it on a separatebond paper with the
following title: Analysis and Recommendations.
Here is a sample of how to do this task. One example has been given foreach quadrant in the matrix.
You have to provide more data.

Intuitive Thinking is a mystery to the world of scientific thinking. It is the kind of thinking that helps you
understand something without reason or logic. It appears only in “moments of inspiration” and is “entirely
about signs and sensations” and yet itworks. It is also something you cannot use at will. It comes like a
spark that suddenlysheds light on things.
Even Albert Einstein revealed that a lot of his work relied heavily on intuition. Einstein calls the intuitive
mind a “sacred gift” that led to the world’s greatest inventions such as the discovery of penicillin by
Alexander Fleming and the detection of x-rays by Wilhelm Rontgen. In our present world, widely-known
people such as Steve Jobs,Bill Gates, and Elon Musk attribute their success to intuition.
4
Young people who lack experiences in life are not very aware of the power of their intuition. The
subconscious mind takes a record of all your experiences in a special storage of your insights. When a
crucial situation happens, your intuitive thinking kicks in, powered by the insights you developed from
your experiences.
Task 5
Directions: Study the 4 Kinds of Intuitive Thinking above and answer the followingquestions on a
separate sheet of paper.
1. Which of the four have you already experienced? Explain your experience.
2. Do you think it is advisable to use mental intuitive thinking when taking a Multiple
Choice type of exam? Explain your answer.
YOUR LEARNINGS
Task 6
Directions: Read the scenarios and identify the kind of intuitive thinking that is applied in each situation.
Write EIT for Emotional Intuitive Thinking, MITfor Mental Intuitive Thinking, PIT for Psychic Intuitive
Thinking, and SIT for Spiritual Intuitive Thinking. Write your answer on a separate sheet ofpaper.
1.)You are sitting alone at a fast food hall and you start to feel that someone is watching you from a short
distance. When you turned around, someone indeedwas staring at you.
2.)You introduced your special male friend to your older sister and their meeting did not turn out well.
You could not understand why your sister was suddenly aloof and distant. When you asked her why she
did not seem to like your friend, her reply was “Is he your boyfriend? I don’t like him.
3.)Upon waking up one morning, you sensed that something was not right. You tried to go about your
day as normally as you could, but the gnawing feeling stayed. You feared that something simply was not
right but you could not tell what it was. To calm yourself, you said a quiet prayer. Later that day, that feeling
of uneasiness and fear was confirmed by news of a near-fatal accident involvingsomeone close to you.
5
THINK AND REFLECT
Task 7
Directions: Make your reflection by answering the question below. Write your answer on a
piece of paper.
Mothers are known to have strong intuition. Their “kutob” is usually right. Haveyou ever wondered how
your mother knew something that you’ve been trying not to let her know? Relate what happened. What
kind of intuition do you thinkare most mothers known to have?
Task 8.
Directions: Read the following sentences and choose the best answer. Write your
answer on a piece of paper.

REMEMBER
To strengthen your ideas about globalization, read the following learning pointsand prepare for the different
activities that will test your knowledge and skills as you go through the lesson.
Globalization
Globalization affects your life and everyone else’s no matter your location and distance from other people.
Globalization comes from the word globalize which refers to the rise of global networks of economic systems.
Generally, it is a process involving the interconnections, diffusion, and exchange of goods (production), services
(technology), ideas (communication), and people.
Sociologist Anthony Giddens (1991) defines globalization as the intensificationof worldwide social relations
which link distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away
and vice versa. The interconnectivity brought about by globalization is manifested by a local event in a country
affecting and creating impacts in another country.
Globalization is multidimensional. However, due to its complex nature, discussions, writings, and research
usually focus on a single dimension or component of globalization. These dimensions mirror the comprehensive
reach and effects of globalization. The dimensions of globalization include the following:
Dimensions of Globalization
1. Economic This refers to international business which covers all contracts and negotiations concerning
globalization sales, investments, mobilization and related transactions undertaken by two or more regions,
countries, and nations outside political territories
2. This dimension has two components: Cultural globalization and social globalization. Cultural
Sociocultural globalization refers to the spread of ideas, values, and meanings across countries broadening
globalization and increasing social relations. Social globalization covers the diffusion of beliefs, practices,
and issues concerning population growth, media, urbanization, tourism, education, and sports
that also drive nations, institutions, and governments to expand social relations.
3. Political This involves institutions, public policies, and practices thatcut across national borders to
globalization facilitate international agreements and transactions.
4. Natural This concerns the environments where the interaction of livingspecies takes place.

The effect of globalization covers many different areas. It reciprocally developed economies all over the
world and increased cultural exchanges. It also allowed financial exchanges between companies & changing the
paradigm of work. Many people are nowadays citizens of the world. The origin of goods became secondary and
geographic distance is no longer a barrier for many services to happen.
Below are some examples of the concrete effects of globalization:
Effects of Globalization
Globalization is the process of expanding the system from the regional or national level to encompass the
entire planet. This trend can be seen in the Trade, Immigration, Communication, Media, Entertainment, Culture, etc.
There are various other examples which show that globalization exists in various different areas.
Globalization is building more connections among people around the world. Thus, the concept of
collaboration and cooperation is essential.
Collaboration is working together toward a common end or goal by actors (people, nations, industries, and
institutions) who are not necessarily allies. In collaboration, actors set aside their differences and focus on their
mutual interests which is the attainment of common goals.
Cooperation is jointly working in pursuit of a common end or goal by actors who consider themselves as
friends. Collaboration and cooperation are undertaken along such areas of economic, sociocultural, military, and
technological.
Cooperation is better understood in the study of regionalism or the interrelations among actors in a
particular geographic area. In Southeast Asia, the longest existing vehicle for regional cooperation is the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It pursues the holistic goal of the social economic, political and
environmental development of the region. Another case of regionalism is the European Union (EU) which the
scope of concern is wholly economic.
Another example is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It was formed for the primary purpose
of protecting the freedom and security of its members through political and military means. NATO encourages
consultation and cooperation in defense and security matters toward confidence-building and prevention of
conflicts.
Collaboration and cooperation also exist in regional associations of lawyers, educators, youth leaders,
4
artists, environmentalists, medical practitioners, and other professionals. The members of the associations hail
from different countries of every region, yet they undertake joint projects and activities that benefit not only their
respective countries but the entire region.
YOUR LEARNINGS
Political scientist Rosa Gomez Dierks (2001) considered the Internet as the “key organizing principle” of
globalization. Through it, people, governments, and firms around the world are interconnecting, interrelating, and
exchanging ideas, beliefs, goods and services.
Task 4: Scenariolysis

learned from an app on her smartphone. She bought the ingredients in the nearby grocery. Some of the
ingredients were raised locally while some were imported. Before everyone eats dinner, she takes a picture and
post it online using a photo sharing app.
Scenario 3. The older sister and her colleagues have decided to take a vacation in Cambodia. She used her credit

3. The forerunners of political globalization are the multinational companies (MNCs) or
transnational companies which have branches in two or more countries. 4. Politicalglobalization increases
the process of economic integration among countries leadingto the creation of a common market.
4. One disadvantage against globalization is the decrease in the power of nationalgovernment
and delocalization.
Task 7: Explanation Mo
Directions: Explain comprehensively the following questions. Write the answers onyour activity notebook.
