Quarter 1 – Module 1:
Electrical Tools and Materials
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and evaluated by the
Development and Quality Assurance Teams of SDO TAPAT to assist you in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming
their personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
The following are some reminders in using this module:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer Let’s Try before moving on to the other activities
included in the module.
3. Read the instructions carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your
answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate
to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and
gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!
Let’s Learn
In this module you will learn how to properly identify different materials and
tools according to its function as per job requirement. This module includes activities
that will widen your knowledge in classifying tools and materials according to its
uses on a specific project that you can be used in a real-life situation.
Let’s Try
PRE-ASSESSMENT
A. Directions: Read each statement carefully and choose the letter of the BEST
answer. Write the chosen letter on a separate sheet of paper.
1. What electrician’s tool is used for removing insulation of wire and cables in
low and high voltage transmission lines?
A. Wire Stripper C. Electrician’s Knife
B. Liquid Wire stripper D. Insulation Remover
2. This device connects and disconnects the flow of electric current in a circuit.
A. Lamp holders C. Junction box

Let’s Recall
Directions: From the scrambled letters below, recall the following terms.
Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.
Let’s Explore
Directions: Based on the given picture below, list down all the electrical tools that
you are familiar with. Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.
Let’s Elaborate
Most of electrical works cannot be done using bare hands. To work easily,
electrical tools or equipment are needed to perform specific jobs. Electrical Tools
and Equipment might help workers to save time, labor, and resources.
The following are common electrical tools and equipment needed in the
installation of electrical wiring:
A. Standard/Flat Screwdriver.
B. Philips Screwdriver.
C. Stubby Screwdriver.
A Standard or Philip Screwdriver
mainly used to drive screws in tight
space, comes with short shank and
shorted handles.
D. Allen Screwdriver/Wrench/Offset.
It is used to drive hexagonal slot
head that could be in the shape of
screw driver.
IV. HAMMERS. These are made of plastic or rubber, hard steel and wood.
Driving and pulling out nails is its main function. The following are types of
hammer:
A. Claw hammer B. Mallet (rubber head) C. Ballpeen hammer
A B C
V. Pliers. These tools are used in handling and twisting wires and cables. They
are made with either insulated or uninsulated handles and steel toughened
grip.
X. Soldering tools are used in making splices and taps connections of wires.
XI. Measuring tools and instrument. The electrician uses the following
measuring tools to measure value of voltage, current and resistance, wire
length, opening sizes of wire, conduit and other items.
Tools are considered as extension of human hand thus increasing speed, control and
precision. It can be used to effortlessly accomplish electrical task however not
consumed in the process.
1. Hand tools are tools manipulated by hands without using electrical energy such
as: puller, hacksaw, pull-push rule, pliers, hammer, and others.
2. Machine/Power tools are tools manipulated by our hands and with the use of
electrical energy such as: electric drill, grinding wheels, vacuum cleaner and others.
Below are the types of Machine Tools:
Electrical materials are industrialized and created for a distinct purpose such as
to:
It maybe single, duplex, triplex or multiplex and could be surface type or flush
type.
III. Lamp holders- devices that hold and protect the lamp and are also
called as ―Lamp Sockets/Receptacles.
These come in many designs and sizes. They are classified as flush,
hanging (weatherproof/chain) and surface types.
IV. Switch - a device that connects and disconnects the flow of electric
current in a circuit. There are many shapes, designs, and types and
they are classified as hanging, flush, and surface types.
Let’s Dig In
Directions: Read the statement carefully and identify what is being described or
defined. Choose your answer from the words inside the box. Write your answer on a
separate sheet of paper.
______________1. This is tools used in driving or pounding and pulling out nails.
______________2. A tool used for removing insulation of medium sized wires ranging
from gauge #10 to gauge #16.
______________5. This is used for griping, holding, cutting electrical wires and
cables and even small nails. Usually used by linemen in doing
heavy tasks.
______________6. Used for cutting and holding fine wires. This can reach tight space
or small opening where other pliers cannot reach and also used
in making terminal loops of copper wires.
______________7. This has a cross tip resembling a positive (+) sign. It is used to
drive screws with cross slot heads.
______________9. Are electrical materials used as the passage of wires for protection
and Insulation.
Let’s Remember
Example:
• Machine tools are tools manipulated by our
hands and with the use of electrical energy
such as: electric drill, grinding wheels,
vacuum cleaner, and others.
