MALIN KUNDANG

ORIENTATION

In ancient times, there lived a poor family on the coast of West Sumatra. A husband and wife who
have an only child named Malin Kundang.

A child who is strong, persistent and brave. He really likes to chase animals especially Chickens. Until
one day, his foot tripped over a rock and caused an injury to his right arm.

One day, his father decided to go migrate to another area, hoping to change their family's economy
for the better. The wife and small child were finally left behind in the village.

Until Malin grew up, his father never came home, while his mother looked older and was often sick.
Seeing these conditions, Malin felt very sorry.

Seeing Malin who is so diligent and likes to work hard, finally a merchant is interested in inviting
Malin to work with him on his ship. Malin was very happy to hear that.

Until one day, after returning from the forest and carrying firewood, he said with a heavy heart that
he was going to wander. This makes the mother's heart ache and finally cry.

Because if Malin left, then he would stay alone at home. Meanwhile, his increasingly severe health
condition made it difficult for him to find food on a daily basis.

With all the consideration and accompanied by flowing tears. Finally, the mother allowed Malin to
go abroad, for an unspecified period of time.

The next day, Malin left for the coast, which ended with a wave of the mother's hand while entering
the ship. There were unstoppable tears between the two of them.

The great love of a mother in fact cannot be hidden even though she is as strong as a mountain. His
mother sobbed while Malin's ship was getting farther out to sea.

Malin Kundang hitched a ride on a ship owned by a rich merchant. He learned a lot about seafaring
and marine science from the crew during the trip.
Suddenly, the ship he was on was attacked by a group of pirates. The pirates seized all property and
all the contents of the ship. Not even a few of the ship's passengers were killed.

Fortunately, Malin managed to save himself from being searched by the pirates because he was
hiding in a room. He hid until the pirates left. Finally he survived.

Because of this incident, the wreck of the ship without a professional crew that he was on became
drifting in the middle of the ocean, without direction and purpose.

After studying without guidance for so long, the ship finally landed on a beach. Malin walked along
the land, then found a village that was fertile and rich in natural resources.

Malin finally lived and settled in the village with other residents. Day after day passed by working
earnestly, diligently, tirelessly and continuously enthusiastic.

As a result of the seriousness that was carried out every day, Malin gradually turned into a figure
who was very rich, had abundant wealth, several ships and many soldiers / crew members.

Every day that passed, his wealth increased, his name began to be widely known even outside the
remote area, as a king / merchant who was rich and kind.

Not long after, he fell in love with a girl and eventually married her. There was a big party with lots of
invitees. Her life is so luxurious and happy.

But on the other hand, the mother, who was left alone in her hometown, found a fate that was very
different from that of her child, namely, her health and economic conditions were getting worse.

Every day until sunset, his mother always comes to the beach waiting for the child's return with an
increasingly sad heart. Every day for years.

In fact, every time a ship was about to sail, her mother always left a message for Malin. Likewise,
when a ship sails, he always asks where and how his beloved child is.

Until one day, the mother received news that her child had been successful and had married and
lived in luxury. Her mother's face, which was always gloomy and sad, was immediately happy and
smiled broadly.
After hearing the news, she continued to pray for her child to always be given health, prosperity,
always carry out the orders of the Almighty and return home quickly.

In addition, because of this news, the mother is even more excited to visit the coast every day,
hoping that her son can return to his village as soon as possible.

BEGINNING OF CONFLICT

One day, the wife invited Malin to take a walk through the sea, along with a luxurious ship and a
large and experienced crew. Finally, they anchored on a mainland.

Unknowingly by Malin, the land turned out to be his own hometown. When the ship starts to
anchor, villagers flock to the coast.

The arrival of Malin, his wife and the entire crew of the ship was greeted with great fanfare by the
local residents. Seeing this, Malin's mother also jostled closer to the ship.

The mother was sure that it was her son, Malin, who came. Then two people were seen standing on
the bridge of the ship, dressed in luxurious clothes and giving the impression of royalty.

Not to mention that Ninik Mamak welcomed her directly, the mother immediately hugged a wealthy
young man who turned out to be her biological child. The mother's heart was so happy and
incomparably happy.

Years of waiting finally came to an end on that day. Plus when he saw a scar on his right arm, which
was exactly the same as the wound on Malin's hand when he was little.

In the middle of the hug, the mother looked at Malin's face and said:

"Malin, my son. Is it true that you are Malin? Why did it take you so long to notify…?”

Malin, who had not had time to say anything, was interrupted by his wife who was spitting and said:

"Is this decrepit old woman your mother? Why did you lie to me before? Didn't you say that your
mother was a rich noble…?”
CLIMAX

Hearing the scathing words of his wife, Malin immediately pushed his mother down on the sand,
saying:

"Hey old woman!, I'm not your daughter, my mother is not old and poor like you..."

The words of his beloved son broke his heart into pieces. Momentary happiness turns into deep
pain. In tears, his mother said:

"Malin, I am your mother, why are you being like this, my son…?"

Still lying down, the mother sat down and was about to hold Malin's leg. But Malin pushed him once
again until his mother fell back into the sand. Malin also said:

“Get lost, crazy woman! You're not my mother. I don't have a dirty and poor mother like you…!”

The soft sobs from the mother were increasingly muffled because she ran out of voice. The wailing
from his old mouth was increasingly touching the hearts of the residents who saw the event

A few moments later, Malin and his wife and crew sailed back home from the village. The residents
returned to their respective activities.

While the mother was still lying unconscious on the beach. After he realized that, he looked around
Air Manis Beach, which was getting quieter, and saw Malin Kundang's ship getting farther away into
the middle of the ocean.

Heartache, surrender, anger, sobbing and disbelief mixed together. Finally, with all willingness and
despair, the mother raised her hands to the sky, praying:

RESOLUSI

"My God, if he is not my son, then I forgive what he did. But if indeed he is my son named Malin
Kundang, O God, I really ask for justice that is due from You…”

After praying, the mother left the beach. Not long after, the weather which was originally sunny
changed completely to become cloudy and dark, accompanied by very heavy rain.
Not to be left behind, Lightning thundered and a big storm accompanied it, finally hitting Malin's ship
which was sailing in the middle of the sea.

Instantly, the ship could not withstand the waves of sea water and a big storm, so the ship was
destroyed and sank. Then the water drives him to the shore.

The next morning, the storm and rain had subsided, the sun was starting to shine. You can see at the
foot of the hill a large rock that was not there yesterday.

It turned out that the stone was the wreck of Malin Kundang's ship. Also seen nearby is a rock that
resembles a human figure who seems to be prostrating.

The stone is the body of Malin Kundang who was cursed to become a rock because of his
disobedience to his mother while alive. On the sidelines of Malin's rocks, there are anchovies, mullet
and mackerel.

That said, the fish are the body fragments of Malin's wife who was constantly looking for her
husband Malin.

Until now, after hundreds of years have passed, if there are large waves that hit these boulders, they
will sound like human screams asking for help and full of regret.

And that said, One that came from the voice of Malin Kundang the rebellious child. At present, this
location has become a tourist destination in West Sumatra which is located on Air Manis Beach,
