PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT│EHS
● PFM is being revised to shift from 1 credit to 0.5 credits, but still maintaining
dual credit status. This course is open to students in grades 10-12.

● The decision to reduce from 1 credit to 0.5 credits is mainly based on giving
more students an opportunity to take this course. PFM is one of our most
popular elective courses at EHS, also giving students an opportunity for dual
credit with LCCC. We have many students that request PFM each year and
do not get it in their schedules.

● We also firmly believe in how beneficial and meaningful this course is for
students and we want to help more students learn these skills before
graduating.

● Allows for other courses and programs to grow

PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT│EHS
● The course will be centered around creating and operating a personal
budget.

○ Students will start with behavioral economics before moving into

income and other factors that affect income (checking/savings
accounts, taxes, paychecks).

○ The course then covers expenses (housing/renting/owning,

transportation/lease/buying, college/loans, insurance, credit/credit
score/loans).

○ The course concludes with focusing on what to do with the remaining

money (spending, investing, retirement).

● This course will still teach the content as required by LCCC.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP│EHS
● Entrepreneurship already aligns to the course content provided by LCCC for
BUS 248 (Essentials of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management).

● There are no significant shifts to course topics and content, but this course
will now be offered for dual credit.

FOUNDATIONS OF ART│EHS
● Foundations of Art is a 0.5-credit course that becomes an entry-level art course
open to students grades 9-12.

● This is a NEW course replacing 2D Foundations of Art and 3D Foundations of Art

and merges them together to give students exposure to both.

● Foundations of Art will include 3 units:

○ Unit 1 - Observation (2D project)

○ Unit 2 - Developing Craft (3D project)
○ Unit 3 - Expression (2D or 3D option)
● This allows students to come into EHS and go directly into Level 1 courses
(Drawing & Painting 1, Ceramics 1, Crafts 1, Digital Fine Art 1, Printmaking 1). This
then allows more students an opportunity to take advanced level art courses
and/or complete the strand of Level 1-2-3.

STAGE DESIGN│EHS
● Stage Design is a new 0.5-credit elective offered in the Technology
Education Department open to students grades 9-12.

● The intention of this course is to provide students with a new option that
appeals to students interested in the technical aspect of theater.

● The overarching idea is to teach students the technical skills and

design/engineering process as it specifically relates to the stage.

● Students will focus on creating sets and props for the audience to see, but
will also be focusing on those same skills and processes to ensure the
audience does not see certain aspects. This includes set design, building
and painting techniques, props, staging, and lighting and sound.

● This course does not require any additional spacing or funding.

NEW MATH COURSES│EHS
● New/revised Math courses proposed at this time all come with the added dual
credit designation with Lehigh Carbon Community College. This means we will
follow LCCC course outlines the same way we do for other dual credit courses.

● For 4 of the courses, our current curriculum matches the existing LCCC course.
No major changes are included for Prob/Stats, Precalculus CP, Calculus CP, and
Advanced Topics.

○ Intro to Probability and Statistics will now count for Dual Credit as
Prob/Stats (MAT 150)

○ Precalculus CP will now count for Dual Credit as College Algebra (MAT 160)

○ Calculus CP will now count as Dual Credit as Business Calculus (MAT 188)

○ Advanced Topics will count as Dual Credit as Calculus 3 (MAT 210)

INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA│EHS
● Math Analysis will be replaced by Intermediate Algebra.

● The goal is to help these students enter community college without having to
pay to take remedial math courses

● In the fall, students will be using EdReady, a resource provided by LCCC for
students to remediate, close gaps, and work on foundational skills to prepare for
the placement test. EdReady also serves as the placement test. Students will
need to pass the placement test in order to take the dual credit portion of the
class in the spring.

● Students not passing the placement test can still take the EHS course and we
hope they would be in a much better position to pass it after graduation.
INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA│EHS
● Students entering EHS taking Algebra 1 and possibly Fundamentals of Algebra
now have an option to take a dual credit course before graduation
NEW MATH COURSES│EHS
● With the addition of all these new math courses, there are now many pathways
that can end with dual credit opportunities that did not previously exist
