ABSTARCT

This paper presents the development and integration of a dashboard

camera-based system aimed at improving road safety by detecting
speed breakers and providing real-time visual warnings to the driver.
Speed breakers, often hidden or poorly marked, can pose significant
risks to motorists if approached at high speeds. The proposed system
leverages computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies to
recognize speed breakers on the road and promptly alert the driver,
reducing the likelihood of accidents and vehicle damage. As we strive
to make our roads safer for all users, this revolutionary system aims
to tackle one of the most common causes of accidents and discomfort
– unexpected encounters with speed breakers.

Objectives
The objective of the Smart Speed Breaker Detection
System is to enhance road safety and driver awareness
by integrating a dashboard camera with real-time
speed breaker detection capabilities. The system aims
to capture footage of speed breakers and provide
visual warnings to the driver, ensuring timely and
accurate alerts to mitigate potential risks associated
with speed breakers on the road. The key objectives
include developing a robust computer vision-based
algorithm for accurate speed breaker detection,
implementing a real-time warning system that
promptly alerts the driver upon detection, and
incorporating distance estimation techniques to
calibrate warning timing based on the vehicle's speed
and proximity to the speed breaker.
5

Problem Statement and its evolution

The problem we aim to address is the lack of real-time warning systems

for drivers to alert them about speed breakers on the road. Speed breakers,
especially unexpected ones or those in low-visibility conditions, can pose
a safety risk to drivers and passengers. Integrating a dashboard camera
with a visual warning system will enable drivers to receive timely and
accurate alerts about speed breakers, enhancing road safety and reducing
the chances of accidents caused by sudden speed breaker encounters.
Evaluation:
To evaluate the effectiveness of the integrated dashboard camera system
with a visual warning for speed breakers, we will consider the following
key metrics.
• Warning Timeliness: Evaluate the time taken by the system to
detect speed breakers and provide visual warnings to the driver. A
quick response time is crucial for ensuring that drivers have
sufficient time to slow down and navigate speed breakers safely.
• False Positive Rate: Analyze the frequency of false positive
warnings, where the system incorrectly identifies objects other than
speed breakers as speed breakers. High false positive rates could
lead to driver distraction and reduced trust in the system.
• False Negative Rate: Assess the occurrence of false negatives,
where the system fails to detect actual speed breakers. A high false
negative rate could compromise safety and lead to missed warning
opportunities.
• Performance in Various Road Conditions: Test the system's
performance under different road conditions, including
variations in lighting, weather, and road surface. This
evaluation will demonstrate the system's robustness and
reliability in diverse scenarios.

Idea Matrix- identify, organize, and
develop

The presentation will focus on integrating a

dashboard camera with a visual warning system
to enhance driver safety by addressing speed
breaker-related risks. The system will
continuously capture road footage using the
dashboard camera and employ image processing
algorithms for speed breaker detection. Once a
speed breaker is identified, the system will
generate visual warnings for the driver through a
user-friendly interface. Calibration and testing
procedures will ensure accurate detection under
varying conditions, and data logging will
facilitate analysis for further improvements. The
seamless integration with existing vehicle
systems will enhance the system's effectiveness
while prioritizing safety and functionality. The
presentation will conclude by highlighting the
potential impact on road safety and discussing
future enhancements and
applications for the system.

Proposed Methodology

The proposed methodology aims to

enhance driver safety by integrating a
dashboard camera with a visual warning
system for speed breakers. The system
will use image processing algorithms to
detect speed breakers in real-time
footage and generate visual warnings for
the driver. It will be calibrated to adapt
to varying road conditions and
seamlessly integrate with existing
vehicle systems. The system's user-
friendly interface will provide drivers
with timely feedback, and data logging
will enable analysis for further
improvements. By addressing speed
breaker-related risks, this solution can
significantly reduce accidents and
enhance road safety.
10

Outcome/Deliverables

The integration of a dashboard camera

with a speed breaker visual warning
system will result in real-time speed
breaker detection using image
processing algorithms, providing drivers
with timely visual warnings on the
dashboard or heads-up display. This non-
intrusive system aims to enhance driver
safety, reduce speed breaker-related
accidents, and offer customizable
configurations to meet individual
preferences. The project's data logging
capabilities will enable analysis for
improvements, while the successful
integration sets the stage for potential
future expansions in road
safety technologies.
11
Sustainability: How does your proposed
solution contributes to the positive
impact on the society?

Our proposed integration of a dashboard camera

with a speed breaker visual warning system offers
several sustainability benefits that positively impact
society. Firstly, by alerting drivers about speed
