What Is The Internet

• It is a large network that’s connect smaller


network together all over the world.
• It is a physical network, it is made of wires,
cables, satellite and rules for exchanging
the information between computers that
connected to the network.
The Web

• It is known as world wide web (www)


• It is a protocol allow the computers send
a multimedia over the internet
• The internet before the web was only
text.
• There are three generation of web :
• Web1.0
• Web 2.0
• Web 3.0
The Web

• Web 1.0 : it is all about searching the websites pages, focused in linking
existing the information and need computer background to create web page.
• Web 2.0 : more dynamic content creation and social interaction, nontechnical
people could be post images, videos,….etc. in the web.
• Web3.0 : identify relationship between human and data, for example: siri
and google assistant.
Uses the people to the internet

• The most common uses in the internet are :


• Communicating by exchange the activity between users such as e-mail, photos, chatting
and videos all over the world.
• Shopping is one of growing fastest application, you can look to the product and make
purchase.
• Searching for information in one of the most uses of the internet, by writing few words
you can get huge amount of information from many sites.
• Educating or e-learning by take classes on any subject.
• Online entertainment by finding movies, news, and games
Internet Access

• To connect to the internet you need:


• Provider : or internet service provider (ISP), the provider connect to the
internet and provide a path to users to access the internet. To connect to
the provider user need DSL cables, wireless modem. Example of provider
in KSA is STC.
• Browser : are a program that provide access to the internet. Example of
browser ?

• to connect to the resource you need an address


• This address called : uniform resource locators (URL)

• The protocol which is rules for exchanging data between computers, the
protocol (http) is one of the most widely used internet protocol.
• (www) world wide web.
• Website name
• Domain name is a specific address for the type of organization.
• Country name

Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML)

• HTML is a language for displaying web pages


• The browser interprets the HTML formatting instruction and display a
document as web pages with hyperlink or links.

• Communication is the most popular internet activity when the friends or family can
stay contact with one another even when they separated by thousand of miles
• Common popular type of internet communication are :
• Social network
• E-mail
• Messaging
• Text messaging (SMS)
• Instant messging
Social Network

• Social network is one of the fastest-growing application


• It is a site or application focus on connecting people and share a commone
activity.
• For example : Instagram- Facebook
E-MAIL

• Electronic mail or e-mail is a transmutation of electronic messages over the


internet.
• The e-mail contain two elements : address and subject
• The address belongs to the sender and recipient
• Each address has a user name and the domain name
• Subject is one line description used to present the topic of message.

• There are many messaging system on the internet, two of the best known are:
• Text messaging : also known as SMS ( short message service) is a short electronic
messaging (fewer than 160 character) who views the messaging on a mobile device such
as smart phone.
• Instant messaging : allows two or more people to contact each other via direct
communication and make a list of friends, for example: Facebook, WhatsApp

• Search engine : are specialized


programs that assist you in locating
information on the internet.
• The common search engine is shown in
table
• Specialized search engine focus on
specific subject websites, for example :
google scholar.
Electronic Commerce

• Electronic commerce or e-commerce is the buying and selling of goods over


the internet
• There are three basic type of electronic commerce:
• Business-to-consumer (B2C): commerce involves the sale of a product or service to the
general public or end users, for example: Amazon.com
• Consumer-to-consumer (C2C): commerce involves individuals selling to individuals, foe
example: eBay.com
• Business-to-business (B2B): commerce involves the sale of a product or service from one
business to another, For example, a furniture manufacturer requires raw materials such as
wood, paint, and varnish.
Cloud Computing

• Cloud computing is uses the Internet


and the web to shift many of these
computer activities from the user’s
computer to other computers on the
Internet.
• It provides access to these services
from anywhere through an Internet
connection.

• The basic components of cloud computing


are:
• clients is the end users who want access to
data, programs, and storage from anywhere
and any time.
• the Internet provides the connection between
the clients and the providers.
• service providers are organizations with
computers connected to the Internet that are
willing to provide access to software, data, and
storage, for example: google drive.

• Internet of Things (IoT) is the ongoing


development of the Internet that
allows everyday objects embedded
with electronic devices to send and
receive data over the internet
• For example, the Fitbit is a bracelet
that monitors health data and sends
that data to your smartphone
