CREST Olympiads is one of the largest Olympiad Exams with students from more than 25 countries.
The objective of these exams is to build a competitive spirit while evaluating students on conceptual
understanding of the concepts.
We strive to provide a superior learning experience, and this workbook is designed to complement
the school studies and prepare the students for various competitive exams including the CREST
Olympiads. This workbook provides a crisp summary of the topics followed by the practice questions.
These questions encourage the students to think analytically, to be creative and to come up with
solutions of their own. There are a couple of previous year papers given at the end of this workbook
for the students to attempt after completing the syllabus. This paper should be attempted in 1 hour to
get an assessment of the student’s preparation for the final exam.

1 Patterns
Patterns form an important part of logical reasoning. While solving these questions, we generally
focus on creating continuity between the given entities. The intelligence of the student is monitored in
terms of how he/she relates one entity with another. It is based upon the repetition of any sequence
or completing a missing part of the figure.
In such questions, we need to focus on the logic which is followed in the given elements. Depending
upon this logic, the student is required to predict the next or the missing term in the question.
Example 1: W, R, T, O, ?
a. S b. Q
c. P d. R
Solution 1: b
We will observe that the place value of the alphabets is decreasing by 5 and increasing by 2
alternatively.
W (23) - 5 = R (18)
R (18) + 2 = T (20)
T (20) - 5 = O (15)
O (15) + 2 = Q (17)
Example 2: Choose the alternative which closely resembles the missing pattern in the given figure.
a. b.
c. d.
Solution 2: a
In the figure given above, we can just concentrate on completing the square in the middle.
Since option (a) and (b) both satisfy this condition, we will now check the difference between the two.
We observe that the position of the quarter circle is different. We need the quarter circle in the bottom
right corner.
Only option (a) provides us with the above criteria.
