1. Find the order and degree of the following differential equation:

 2 2 2
(i) ddt2x + ddt2x + t dx
dt = 0.
2 √
(ii) t ddt2y + t2 dy 2
dt − y cos t = 2t − 3t + 4.
r 2 2 5
d y dy
(iii) y + dx 2 = dx .
  2 72
d2 y 1 dy
(iv) dx2
= 4 2 + dx .
 3
d2 y 2 dy
(v) 1+ dx2
= dx .

2. Form the ODE by eleminating the arbitary constants:

(i) y = (A + Bx)ekx , where A, B are arbitary constant.

(ii) y = ln (sin (x + a)) + b.
(iii) y = αx + α − α3 .
(iv) (x − h)2 + (y − k)2 = a2 , where (h, k) is the center as parameter and a is the radius
of the circle as constant.
(v) Obtain the differential equation of all circles each of which touches the x-axis at the
origin.
2
x2
(vi) Obtain the differential equation of the system of confocal conics a2 +λ
+ b2y+λ = 1, in
which λ is the arbitary parameter and a, b are given constant.

3. Solve the following Intial Value Problems:

(i) x cos xy (ydx + xdy) = y sin xy (xdy − ydx), y(1) = π.

1
(ii) (xy 2 − e x3 )dx − x2 ydy = 0, y(1) = 0.
dy
(iii) x cos x dx + y(x sin x + cos x) = 1, y(0) = 1.

4. Check whether the differential equations are homogeneous or not (reduce it

to homogeneous if not), then solve it:

(i) x sin xy dy = (y sin xy − x)dx.

(ii) 2xydy = (y 2 − x2 )dx.

(iii) (x + 2y − 3)dy = (2x − y + 1)dx.

5. Check whether the differential equations are exact or not (if not, reduce it to
exact by using proper Integrating factor), then solve it:

(i) x2 ydx − (x3 + y 3 )dy = 0.

1
(ii) (x3 + 3xy 2 )dx + (y 3 + 3x2 y)dy = 0.
(iii) (2xy + y − tan y)dx + (x2 − x tan2 y + sec2 y)dy = 0.
dy dy
(iv) y 2 + x2 dx = xy dx .
dy
(v) x dx + (3x + 1)y = xe−2x .

6. Solve the following ODEs by reducing them to linear differential equations:

dy 1−2x
(i) dx + x2
y = 1.
√ dy

(ii) a2 + x2 dx + y = a2 + x2 − x.
dy tan y x
(iii) dx − 1+x = (1 + x)e sec y.
(iv) y(2xy + ex )dx − ex dy = 0.
dy
(v) y 2 + (x − y1 ) dx = 0.
dy y y 2
(vi) dx + x log y = x2 (log y) .
dy
(vii) cos x dx − y sin x + y 2 = 0.
(viii) ydy + by 2 dx = a cos xdx.
