Pan Calibration in The Field - Revised FINAL
Pan Calibration in The Field - Revised FINAL
Tape the copper strip over the vertical line on the sensor as further beam attenuation. Note: The
copper strip cannot extend below the bottom of the sensor
The Phantom images can be precisely measured by using the application program called “IMAGEJ”
which is included within the Progeny Imaging workstation software. Other image management
applications programs may also be used if they include a reliable, calibrated measuring feature.
Note: Proper positioning of the image phantom and the cuspid laser is
essential to phantom image evaluation.
Misalignment of the image phantom or the Cuspid Laser will affect all
subsequent images produced.
Verify the image phantom is firmly placed on the patient table. The position
of the image phantom should leave no gaps between the phantom
mounting block and the patient table casting.
The cuspid laser must be in the center position. Use the smallest alignment pin and insert it in the hole
underneath the Cuspid Laser to center the Laser wheel. Remove the pin.
PHYSICAL MANIFESTATIONS
Note: Ideally alignment circles are equally focused both above and below the horizontal centerline
Round alignment circles only in focus above the horizontal line (below out of focus)
1. This indicates that the focal trough is too far from the vertical column.
2. Perform the X axis patient table alignment.
3. If problem persists, inspect the condition of the cuspid position potentiometer. Replace if necessary.
4. Perform cuspid position pot calibration.
Round alignment circles only in focus below the horizontal line (above out of focus)
1. This indicates that the focal trough is too close to the vertical column.
2. Perform the X axis patient table alignment.
3. If problem persists, inspect the condition of the cuspid position potentiometer. Replace if necessary.
4. Perform cuspid position pot calibration.
1. The specified length on each side from center is 78 mm ± 3 mm and ± 3mm between sides
2. Perform the C-Arm “Zero Position” alignment.
3. If problem persists, perform Y-axis alignment.
i. Select ‘Move to Zero’ and wait for movement to stop. When movement has stopped,
re-insert the pin in the zero-position hole, and confirm that it inserts fully.
j. The Y-opto Delta should report ‘OK’, If the value is OK proceed; if not- Adjust the Opto
slightly. Repeat steps D through J until you receive ‘OK’.
k. Note the expected RTC value range is between 15,500-17,500, moving the opto forward
increases the value.
l. Select-Touch ‘Finish’ twice to return to service screen.
2. Perform the X Axis Alignment Procedure
a. Enter service mode and touch on the overhead.
b. Select Axis Service and Diagnostics.
c. Select the X axis.
d. Manually move the overhead until the medium alignment pin fits in the zero-position
hole. The overhead can be moved using the column keys or by turning the black lead
screw (threaded rod) manually.
h. Select ‘Move to Zero’ and wait for movement to stop. When movement has stopped,
insert the pin in the zero-position hole, and confirm that it inserts fully. If it doesn’t
insert fully, go back and repeat step 2.d.
i. Select ‘Finish’ twice to return to service screen.
3. Perform the C Arm Alignment Procedure
Note: This can only be done when the X-axis is in zero position.
g. Bring the Pan to ‘Green Ready’ by taping the return button until Ready is Green.
h. Capture the images of the phantom.
i. Click on the diskette on the PTwain screen and save the image to the workstation
desktop.
j. Open the image in Image J. by dragging and dropping the image to image J
k. Click on Image/Properties/ and make sure the units are set to mm, and the pixel size is
set to 0.096 width and height. Click OK.
l. Using the line tool, draw a line between the following features in the image
After each line, hit ctrl-m
i. Using the straight-line selections command, measure the width of the image
from the center vertical line to the R/L vertical line adjacent to the R/L. Distance
should be 78 mm ± 3mm
ii. Using the straight-line selections command, measure the width of the image
from the vertical line adjacent to the R to the vertical line adjacent to the L.
Distance should be 156 mm ± 6mm
iii. The actual measurements determine the next steps 1st set size X-Axis Table
adjustment then balance as needed with Y-axis table adjustment.
6. Confirm system alignment and functionally by using the Image Phantom making a couple test
images.
