Report Text Thunder

The document discusses thunder and lightning, explaining that lightning is a sudden discharge of electricity between clouds or between clouds and the ground. It forms when positive and negative charges in clouds build up and discharge. Lightning strikes at a rate of 50-100 times per second worldwide and can reach temperatures of 34,000 degrees Celsius. The document provides tips to stay safe during lightning such as going indoors, avoiding swimming, trees, electricity poles, and open fields.

Thunder Lightning

Thunder Lightning is a sudden, shocked, and very fast electric force

between the cloud and ground, or between clouds. The speed of can be
several miles long. It is so hot , with average temperatures of 34.000°
Celcius, that cause surrounding air suddenly expanding with a loud
explosion and sounds.
As the electric charges gather inside the cloud and the cloud position
gets higher, the cloud charges become involved in air turbulence. This
causes the cloud electric charges to move rapidly and continuously. This
movement will make the positive charges and negative charges separate
themselves. The top of the cloud will collect positive charges, while negative
charges will collect at the bottom of the cloud. Negative charges at the
bottom of the cloud have a tendency to bind with positive charges on earth.
If the negative charge at the bottom of the cloud is large enough, the flow of
negative charges from the cloud will go to earth. When lightning strikes,
there will be an exchange of negative charges from the cloud with positive
charges from the earth. It is during this meeting of negative and positive
charges that we see lightning and thunder.

Lightning can be recognized as a significant weather hazard and occurs

at an average rate of 50 to 100 discharges per second worldwide. Lightning
rods and metal conductors can be used to protect structures by diverting
lightning current into the ground as much as possible. When lightning
occurs, people are advised to stay indoors and away from open doors or
windows. This is to avoid contact with electrical equipment that may be
exposed in the outside environment. Many people are victims of being
struck by lightning, some die or are injured.

- Tips to Protect Yourself from Lightning : source from BMKG

(1) If you hear thunder, go indoors immediately. When you hear

thunder during a heavy downpour, immediately find a room to avoid
lightning. Take shelter inside a house or building that is safer for you. Do
not go outside. If you can't find a room or building, you can take shelter in a
safe car or bus stop. (2) keep yourself out of the swimming pool You
need to avoid swimming during heavy rain with lightning. It's best to stay
away from swimming pools so you don't get struck by lightning. The energy
in lightning can travel through water, so watch out for heavy rain when you
are swimming. (3) avoid taking cover under trees Not many people
know that trees can conduct energy from lightning. For this reason, avoid
sheltering under trees during heavy rain accompanied by wind and
lightning. Lightning can travel through trees and the energy can jump to
your body. It is better if you take shelter inside a safe room or building.
(4) stay away from electricity poles and towers Another thing you
need to avoid is standing near electricity poles or towers. Lightning easily
strikes places or things that are higher. Moreover, electric poles are usually
made of materials that can attract electrical energy. You can stay away from
power poles or buildings that have the potential to be struck by lightning .
(5) stay away from unprotected fields When you are in rice fields,
fields, streets and parks, take shelter immediately in case of heavy rain and
lightning. Lightning always looks for open ground to release its energy. It is
very dangerous for you if you do not find shelter during lightning. The risk
of being struck can endanger your life.
