Wait Management System

When people go to a cafe or a restaurant they often sit down, look at the menu,
and think about what they would like to order. Usually once they have decided,
they either wait for staff to come and take their order or line up at a counter to
place their order. There are several problems with this:
a) time is precious, and waiting to place their order can be frustrating,
especially when there are many other customers in front of them waiting
to be served.
b) The more popular the cafe or restaurant becomes, the more staff the cafe
or restaurant must pay to keep wait times acceptable.

Wait Management System has been proposed to address these issues. With this
system, customers can immediately place their orders, without having to wait
for staff to come and serve them. It also eliminates the possibility for waiters to
misunderstand a customer's order.

The system must allow customers to:


• select their table number.
• browse through the menu.
• add items from the menu to their order.
• request assistance from a waiter.
• request the bill once the meal is complete. The customer can then go to
the front counter to pay.

The system must allow kitchen staff to:


• view a time-sorted list of customer orders that have come in
• mark an order item as prepared once it is ready for serving
The system must allow wait staff to:
• receive a notification when a customer requests assistance, which should
include information about the table number requesting assistance
• mark requests for assistance as completed once they have been dealt with
• receive a notification when an order item is prepared and ready to be
served, which should include information about the prepared order item,
and the table number it should be delivered to
• mark order items as complete once they have been served to the
customer

The system must also allow managers to:


• add new categories to the menu
• add new menu items with titles, descriptions, ingredients, category, and
cost to the menu
• remove existing menu items from the menu
• update the description, ingredient, category, or cost to the menu
• update the order in which menu items are shown within a category
• update the order in which menu categories are shown on the menu

You need to come up with, at least, eight (8) functionalities including, at least,
two (2) novel functionalities with respect to existing similar wait management
systems.
