1. All competing teams must strictly adhere or observe these general guidelines and the
mechanics of each contest.
2. The chairman of the entire event, with the approval of the advising committee, has the
right to modify or alter any of the mechanics as the need arises, one day before the said
contest provided that his/her reason must valid, acceptable, and reasonable and is
supported with a formal document. This document shall be distributed as soon as possible
to eliminate any misunderstandings or conflict of interests of any parties.
3. MathSci officers (from President down to P.I.O) are NOT ALLOWED to be the main
participants of a certain event. They may still join a contest, but should only be given a
minor role play, such as props men and the like.
4. Teacher/s in charge of the group solely liable to update and inform their students or
participants about the set mechanics and criteria of each competition includes any
announced changes of mechanics. The teacher/s in charge of the group should be
responsible enough as to date, time, venue, and/or requirements of each competition. In
other words, it is no longer the responsibility of the Chairman of the event in case the
teacher/s in charge of the group forgets the time, date or venue; immediate information

Once this specific guideline is proven to be violated, the participation or entry of the
group on that certain contest is hereby DISQUALIFIED.
6. Judge’s decision for each contest is final and irrevocable.
7. There will be assigned committees. Heads of the committees are all MathSci officers;
they will only be assisted by selected group. These committees re expected to do their
functions and responsibilities according to what is conducted in the meeting to be called
by the Chairman of the Event, accompanied by the MathSci Club members.
8. Teacher/s in charge of the group is advised to read and comprehend the general
guidelines and each of mechanics/criteria of each contest. There are some concerns or
suggestions to improve or modify the general guidelines or contest mechanics/criteria, the
chairman of the event, together with the Advising Committee, is very open to consider
them if significance of the suggestion will give a merit to the improvement and clarity of
the contest mechanics. Once an Official and Final Copy of the Mechanics/Activities is
issued to each of the teacher/s in charge of the group, any further concerns or suggestions
are no longer be entertained.

10. In case during the actual conduct of an event/contest and there exists concerns/grievances
from any party, approach directly the Chairman of the event. The Chairman of the event
will then tap the Advising Committee (composed of the SAM, MathSci President, and
MathSci moderator) for whatsoever relevant action is to be taken to address the

from the given pieces of information.

Objective: To solve problem applying Math and Science Concepts and discovering new worlds
and opening new horizons.

Contest Guidelines:

1. Questions during the Easy phase will be limited to fifteen (15) seconds per question. For
the Moderate phase, it will be limited to thirty (30) seconds per question. For the Difficult
phase, it will be limited to sixty (60) seconds per question since the questions for the said
phase require or need quite long computations. Before the question is read, the
participants must raise the piece of chalk.
2. Questions will be read twice by the quizmaster. After the second reading, the quizmaster
shall say “GO” and only then the team be allowed to write the answer. Automatically
time for each round starts after the signal, “GO” given by the quizmaster.

is a multiple choice, the answer must be written in PRINT BIG LETTERS such as A, B,
C, and D.
3. Only complete answers will merit a credit. Incomplete answers shall be considered wrong
answers for the problem-solving type questions in the DIFFICULT phase. Wrong
spelling is also considered WRONG. When an answer desired for as a mathematical
unit/symbol this must be clearly written as well.

RUBIX CUBE

Friday – September 22, 2023

Overview: Rubix cube is a game where the players will come together to solve the cube as
quickly as possible.

Objective: To enhance a variety of cognitive and physical skills, making it a valuable and
intellectually stimulating puzzle.

MECHANICS:
1. Before each competitor's attempt, the Rubik's Cube is scrambled to create a random
starting state. Competitions have designated scramblers who follow established
protocols to ensure that the cube is sufficiently randomized and meets specific
criteria.
2. Competitors are typically given a limited amount of time (20 seconds) to inspect the
scrambled cube before they start solving. During this time, they can examine the
cube's configuration and plan their solution.
3. The timer is started when the competitor begins them solve and stopped when they
complete the solve.
4. The team who has a short time period of solving the rubiks cube is the winner.

PINOY HENYO
Friday – September 22, 2023

Overview: "Pinoy Henyo" is a popular word-guessing game in the Philippines. The name "Pinoy
Henyo" translates to "Filipino Genius" in English. It is commonly played as a party game or as a
fun activity during gatherings and events.

Objectives: To improve various skills, particularly communication, teamwork, and quick

thinking.
Mechanics:
1. Before playing, the facilitator will prepare a set of index cards or pieces of paper. The
words or phrases can be related to the universe.
2. Divide the players into pairs or teams. Each team consists of two members: a guesser and
a clue-giver.
3. One team starts as the clue-giving team, and the other team is the guessing team.
4. The clue-giver from the clue-giving team selects a word or phrase card without showing
it to the guesser. This word or phrase will be the one the guesser needs to figure out.
5. he clue-giver provides verbal clues to help their teammate guess the word or phrase.
However, there are specific limitations:
 The clue-giver cannot say the word itself or any derivative of the word.
 The clue-giver cannot use gestures, actions, or charades.
 The clue-giver can respond with "Yes" or "No" to the guesser's questions or
guesses.

6. The guesser listens to the clues given by the clue-giver and attempts to guess the word or
phrase. They can make as many guesses as they want within a set time limit, typically
two minutes.
7. If the guesser correctly guesses the word or phrase within the time limit, the team scores
a point. If the guesser is unable to guess within the time limit or if they pass, no point is
awarded for that round.
8. After each round, the teams switch roles. The team that was previously guessing becomes
the clue-giving team, and vice versa.
9. The game continues for a predetermined number of rounds or until a set time limit. The
team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

PAPER AIRPLANE CONTEST

Friday – September 30, 2022

Overview:
Mechanics:

Your airplanes
1. Paper planes must only be constructed out of one piece of paper: Standard letter size
(8.5” x 11”). The sheet must be modified by folding only! No ripping, gluing, cutting,
stapling or ballasting is allowed!
2. Paper planes have to be built on site on event day. Time limit for building: 10 minutes.
(Minor adjustments may be made later “on the fly”.)
3. Ten sheets of paper will be provided to each team and as many as ten airplanes may be
built. However, as the rules below imply, a maximum of four planes may be flown in
competition.

Long Distance Category

10. The aircraft must be launched by one person throwing the aircraft unaided from behind a
straight launch line marked on the floor. Passing over the launch line leads to an invalid
attempt. Touching the launch line or any point beyond during the launch, leads to an
invalid attempt. One team member may move beyond the launch line, after the paper
plane has come to rest.
11. Two trials per team are allowed. Different planes can be used, the better attempt counts.
12. The distance is measured from the starting line to the furthermost part of the plane after it
has come to rest. Planes may strike inanimate objects (wall, ceiling, fixtures, floor, …)
along the way. We measure the North-South component of the horizontal displacement
(e.g. if a plane gets hung up on the ceiling or flies into a corner, we will not measure a
diagonal distance).
13. The event will be held in the basketball court of the school. Paper planes will be launched
toward the north. The far wall is approximately 40.0 meters away. Flights reaching all the
way to the far wall and striking it will be scored as 40.0 m (or whatever the precise
distance is, measured on the event day).
