22che154 Beee Lab Rectifiers

The document describes experiments performed to study and observe the input and output waveforms of half-wave and full-wave rectifier circuits. The experiments used diodes, a transformer, and a cathode ray oscilloscope. In the experiments, a half-wave rectifier circuit was assembled and the input waveform from the transformer and output waveform across the load resistance were observed on the oscilloscope. Next, a full-wave rectifier circuit was assembled and similarly, the input and output waveforms were observed on the oscilloscope. The input and output waveforms of the half-wave rectifier were plotted on graph paper. Circuit diagrams of the half-wave and full-wave rectifier are also included.

3.HALFWAVE AND FULLWAVE RECTIFIER

AIM
To study half wave and full wave rectifier circuits and to observe input and output
waveforms on CRO.

APPARATUS

(i) Diodes -2

(ii) CRO
(iii) Transformer 230 V/ (6-0-6) V

(iv) Load Resistance

PROCEDURE
(i) Connect the circuit for half wave rectifier as shown in the figure. A
sinusoidal voltage of 230V, 50 HZ is applied to the input of the
transformer.
(ii) View waveform of the input to the rectifier by connecting CRO chords
across secondary of the transformer. Measure time-period and peak
voltage. Calculate frequency by taking invers~ of time-period. Calculate
RMS value of the input to the rectifier by VRMS = VpJ;K
(iii) View output waveform by connecting CRO chords across load resistance.
Measure time-period and peak voltage.
(iv) Now connect the circuit for full wave rectifier as shown in the figure.
(v) View out put waveform by connecting CRO chords across load resistance.
Measure time-period and peak voltage.
- (vi) Plot input and output waveforms viewed on CRO screen on the graph
paper choosing suitable scale (preferably same as time/div and volt/div
settings on CRO as of horizontal and vertical scales).

Note

Focus, intensity, time/ div. and volt/div. knobs are adjusted accordingly to
observe a perfect waveform on CRO screen.
