2. Radiation Safety

1. Users and operators should wear appropriate protecting devices and clothes.

2. Stay distance from the radiant sources and all the possible secondary radiation zones.

3. Eliminate all unnecessary objects near the exposure zones.

4. The distance from the focus to skin should be kept at least 8 inch (20cm).

5. For the experimental uses, apply the lowest possible values of kV, mAs and exposure time.

6. Be careful not to exceed the limited radiograms in the exposure area.

The ionizing radiation could be dangerous for patients and

4. System Configuration

DIG-Series is a radiological device for veterinary uses. It should be applied for the radiographic diagnosis
and operated by qualified practitioners. Users have to comply with safety and health regulations concerning
the ionizing radiation protection and the electrical and mechanical safety of the veterinary medical devices.

PREPARATION FOR OPERATION

1. Operation Practices

a. Wear a lead apron while making exposures.

b. Stay at least 6.5feet (2m) away from the unit or extend the cord of hand switch as long as possible in
order to secure enough space for your safety.

c. Use proper field size and technical values for each procedure to minimize x-ray exposure dose and
obtain the best radiographic result.

d. When you make exposure to the patient on the bed, ask visitors to leave the room first and keep
appropriate distance from the patient.

e. Pay attention to the maintenance schedule of the device and keep up with it.

f. Cumulative radiation dose usually does not exceed recommended maximum levels. However, if you
make radiographic exposures using high kV and mAs quite often, the evaluation of the specialist is
needed to check whether extra protective devices are necessary for the user or not.

2. Positioning of the patient against the collimator

a. Place a loaded cassette on the patient’s backside.

b. Arrange the SID (Source to Image Receptor Distance) using a tape measure located on the side of the
collimator.

c. Turn on the collimator lamp and laser pointer by the pushing collimator/laser switch is on.

d. Adjust the size of the x-ray beam in accordance with the film size using the x-ray field adjustment knobs.
The collimator and laser pointer will be turned off after 30 seconds by internal timer.

3-4. Wireless / Wired PC Interface (Option)

3-4-1. Introduction
All DIG-Series models can be equipped with an optional remote control system using either Wireless
Bluetooth Interface or RS-232 communication cable between PC and the x-ray unit. This option will
allow the full control of the x-ray unit from PC.

3-4-2. Communication Modules Block Diagram

3-4-3. Wired (RS-232) Cable Specification

For proper communication, use only the RS-232 null modem communication cable without handshaking
type. In this cable, only the data lines and signal ground are cross connected as shown in below. All
other pins have no connection.

3-4-4. Wireless Bluetooth Module Connection

a. Connect the HPS-120 and HPU-100 modules to x-ray unit and PC, respectively. Both x-ray unit and
PC powers should be turned on before the connection.
b. The HPS-120 module’s red LED (OPR) light should be on, and the HPU-100 module’s red LED
(OPR) should blink periodically once it is successfully installed.

3-4-5. Wireless Bluetooth Setup

a. Plug the HPU-100 module into USB port of PC.
b. Place the installation CD supplied with the Bluetooth modules into the PC and install the program by
executing the setup.exe file.
c. Run “BlueSoleil MultiSerialPort” icon, and connect HPU-100 device to HPS-120 device referring to
Bluetooth manual.
d. If it is connected well, LNK LED on HPS-120 device is turned on and LNK LED on HPU-100 device
is flashed periodically.
e. If all process are terminate, we can control and run with application program under bluetooth
communication.

3-6. DR-Interface Connection

3-6-1. Timing Flow

a. Normally, X-ray unit goes through READY, EXPOSURE process to get the x-ray output by using a
hand switch or remote communication signals. However, once the DR interface is used, it controls
the exposure exclusively by the EXP_OK_INPUT signal.
b. As shown in the timing chart above, activating the Ready SW and Exposure SW will result in the
outputs of Ready_SW_OUPUT and EXP_SW_OUTPUT, respectively, and waiting for the (external,
user provided) EXP_OK_INPUT signal to produce x-ray output.
c. Therefore, only when the EXP_OK_INPUT signal is available, the x-ray unit generates x-ray output.
When the x-ray generation is stopped by the preset time which is set by the control panel,
EXP_END_SIGNAL_OUTPUT is generated for the duration of 0.1 second.
