Trouble shooting is a process of identifying a computer problem so that it can be


fixed.

Why is Computer Maintenance important?


 Increase the speed and the life of your PC
 Prevents errors
 Secures your data and information from unwanted damage
 Saves time

Areas to Troubleshoot
Hardware

The physical part of a computer.

Most computer hardware is built-in-> cpu, ram

 Power failure in the computer


 Device problems like a keyboard, mouse and printer not being recogised

Software

Computer software can be any program file or application running on the


computer

 You are unable to install a program


 The program or utility does not load. It has an error when you attempt to
load it
 The system crashes when you are working with a specific software

Operating system

 Windows restarts without warning


 Windows stops responding
 Windows files do not boot
 Windows starts in a safe mode
 Windows slows down

Fact= speed up your computer system by increasing the RAM, deleting the
temporary files, running the Disk cleanup utility and emptying the Recycle Bin.

Bug=> an error or mistake

Debug=> a process of finding

Steps for troubleshooting


Step 1: Find out the problem
 The system is not getting a proper power supply
 The system restarts on its own after a few minutes
 Sometimes the system stops responding
 The system is running slow
 An error message is displayed
 Windows does not load

Step 2: Categorise your problem

Step 3: Check the service manual

Step 4: Back to its original state

Step 5: Call an expert


Troubleshooting common problems
The computer locks up
1) Press ctrl+ Alt+ Del (all three at the same time)
2) Click on the Start Task Manager option in the list
3) The Windows Task Manager window displaying the Task list appears
4) Select any program that says ‘Not responding’ in the Status section.
5) Click on the End Task button. Repeat until the tasks come to an end.

For most of the computer problems, you solve these by troubleshooting

Error messages displayed on the monitor


If an error message is displayed on your monitor screen, you must reboot it. A
majority of problems that occur while you are using your computer can be fixed
by rebooting. Memory space is cleared of any application that is not in use and
most things are reset.

The computer is completely dead with no power supply


-Check all the connection

 A lot of computer problems can be solved by troubleshooting.
