CEMflex Product Data Sheet

CEMflex Active Waterstop provides a watertight seal at concrete construction joints using a steel plate with an active crystallization coating on both sides. When exposed to alkaline conditions in concrete, the coating undergoes a chemical reaction forming crystals that fill voids and cracks, self-healing the concrete over the lifetime of the structure. The waterstop can be installed before or after concrete placement using clips to secure overlaps, and resists water penetration through hydrostatic pressure up to 5 bars when overlaps are at least 200mm.

CEMflex Active Waterstop

Product Data Sheet

Product Description
CEMflex Active Waterstop provides a watertight seal that can resist the penetration of water due to
hydrostatic pressure between construction joints in concrete walls, slabs, foundations and other non-
movement construction joints.

CEMflex Active Waterstop consists of a steel plate with an active crystallization coating on both sides.
When subjected to alkaline, the active coating undergoes a chemical reaction causing the formation of
crystalline which fills voids and cracks in the concrete at the construction joint.

The steel plate provides a physical barrier to prevent the passage of water, while the CEMflex crystalized
coating continues to re-activate to self-heal concrete throughout the life time of the structure.

Material Description
CEMFlex Active Waterstop system consists of three simply designed components.

1. CEMflex Active Waterstop: L=2.00 m x W=150 mm steel plate waterstop

2. CEMflex Omega Clip: Used for fixing steel plates to the concrete reinforcement
3. CEMflex Clip: Used to secure steel plate overlaps

Applications
CEMflex Active Waterstop can be used to waterproof up to 90% of non-movement construction joints in
concrete structures such as;
 Underground parking structures and foundations
 Waste water treatment and sewage plants
 Liquid retaining structures
 Gas and oil retaining structures
 Tunnel, subway, roads and railway construction
 Vertical and horizontal construction joints at slabs, walls and foundations

Product Features
 Up to 80% Labor savings through two simple installation methods
 No special installation tools needed – no cutting welding or bonding required
 2 Bar water pressure minimum 50 mm waterstop overlap
 5 Bar water pressure minimum 200 mm waterstop overlap
 Safe for drinking water; nontoxic materials
 Resistant to oil, gasoline, mineral oil and biological oil
 Fully waterproof – crystallization coating does not activate prematurely on contact with water
 Installed pre or post concrete placement
 No waste generated due to simple packaging
 Rated for 100 year life expectancy
 International technical assessments, evaluation reports and approvals available

Evaluation and Testing
CEMflex Active Waterstop includes independent evaluations, testing reports and technical assessments
from various international organizations and laboratories.

International Code Council – North American Approval

MPA Stuttgart Germany Test Certificate
DVGW German Drinking Water Approval
Hygiene Institute DVGW Certificate Drinking Water Approval

Use and Installation

CEMflex Active Waterstop is installed at non-movement construction joints. The steel plate requires a
minimum embedment depth of 30mm across the center of the construction joint. Where individual plates
meet, CEMflex waterstop requires a minimum of 50mm overlap, which must be secured by a CEMflex
Clip. Refer to technical reports for further information.

There are two methods of CEMflex waterstop installation:

1. Pre-concrete placement, by fixing the CEMflex with Omega Clips to reinforcement

CEMFlex is positioned, prior to the erection of formwork, along the construction joint. The Omega Clip
holders are used to secure the waterstop overlap and tied to the reinforcement prior to concrete
placement.

2. Post-concrete placement, embed the CEMflex directly into the freshly poured concrete

CEMflex steel plate is embedded into the freshly poured concrete along the construction joint
location. CEMflex Clips are used to secure the waterstop overlaps. To ensure proper positioning and
embedment, placement should be done in a timely manner while the concrete is still workable.

Health and Safety

For more information on the safe handling, storage, and disposal refer to CEMflex MSDS sheet
