CDVR

This document provides an overview of the Caterpillar Digital Voltage Regulator (CDVR). It discusses the following key points in 3 sentences or less: The CDVR communicates via a Cat PC software interface or CAN data link. It uses PID control to regulate the alternator voltage based on feedback between the actual and setpoint voltages. The regulator has modes for automatic voltage regulation, power factor control, and VAR control.

4. Features
4.4 Voltage Drop
Used when a single genset is working providing voltage to a load at a certain
distance.
In this case, as the power demand from the load increases ( current through the
cables grows), the voltage losses on the line increases.
We can program on the voltage regulator an increase in the voltage setting according
to the load.

4. Features
4.5 Voltage Droop
Used when paralleling gensets to help the Reactive Load Sharing between them.
We can program on the voltage regulator a decrease in the voltage setting according
to the reactive load.

V

416 V Notice that the effects of “Line

Voltage Droop
Genset Output Voltage Drop”and “Droop”are just opposite,
400 V
that is why we can not select them
together.
