Forums Work Prior to full adoption.

Labeling/organizing of toolbar needs to be improved? As a first time user I really do not know what it all entails. There are 2 speech ballon icon types, flagging read/unread. Best possible? Confusing? Remove crippled attachment MIME lookup for the icons, replace with a paperclip (or nothing) Come up with a better way to flag that a Forum is moderated (or one at all)

Remote tasks/decisions 1. 2. Moving Delete link here makes sense but will take non-template work If need a better way to flag that a Forum is moderated, might need changes to logic

Moving Delete link here makes sense but will take non-template work Make this view exactly like the Forums Main need to surface attachments, status icons (read, unread, draft, locked). Need Previous/Next pager as in single topic view. If need a better way to flag that a Forum is moderated, might need changes to logic

Topic View
Local tasks/decisions 1. Labeling/organizing of toolbar (and sdubject line) needs to be improved 2. 3. Move actions from toolbar next to topic title Remove crippled attachment MIME lookup for the icons, replace with a paperclip (or nothing)

Remote tasks/decisions 1. 2. 3. Include next to topic title item count, flags (moderared, locked, draft, etc, either inherited or local). Move Delete from topic settings form to next to topic subject line. If no items, hide entire table (include a rendered attribute on that element that is true if there are messages).

General issues 1. Mark as read issue. Only appears unread if I flag it, but not if I have read it. Need to puzzle this one out. Is sthis always true?

Permissions view
Local tasks/decisions 1. 2. Examine vocabulary Examine layout, see if can come up with a clearer alternative.

Adding/editing Forums/Forum/Topic
Local tasks/decisions 1. The action buttons should be Save. Save and Add [New Topic/Another], Save Draft, Cancel)

General
Behaviour oddities

1. 2. 3. 4.

Make Forum moderated - topics do not become moderated Make Forum locked - topics become locked Cancel out of compose or edit does not take me back to where I was After approving or denying a message I am not returned to the pending view if that is where I came from 5. There are 2 print previews - one launched from subject only topic list view, the other one from the "view all items with content threaded" view. They both have the same content. 6. Author name inconsistencies sometimes it is Gonzalo Silverio (gsilver), sometimes in its Gonzalo Silverio. 7. Inconsistencies of where attachments are displayed. There seems to be no organizing principle. Attachments to messages do not appear in the Messages Pending Approval view. One can click on the subject and see them. 8. Grading a posting does not display in the posting, either to the student or to the instructor (grader/gradee) only in the Gradebook.
Needs

1. Moderation flags need to be more visible 2. Looking at a single message I have 2 options - Reply to message, Reply to thread. Placement and wording of these 2 needs severe help. 3. Other actions slideout needs work 4. In Message View implement same hide/show mechanism as in Forum view for Read Full Description 5. Need a mechanism in threaded views to distinguish between top level messages and child messages. I have hacked something that sort of works, but need more.
Decisions

1. Either underline none or do not underline iconized ones 2. The synoptic tool shows in Site Home Page and in Workspace this might need planning. Also in Workspace it summarizes both Forum postings and Messages this might need a local mod. 3. The interplay between Messages and Forums also needs to be thoroughly investigated. 4. Unhappy with view of messages with context and thread
Ponderings

1. As with any open ended hierarchy the danger of massive lists length (a geometric
progression given the hierarchical nature) needs to be addressed.

Puzzling workflows

1. Student creates a thread in a moderated forum. 2. Instructor can go in and edit post 3. Post is still ascribed to student, a string gets poked in saying that Last edited by (this string is coming from deep in a JSF widget cannot format it well.) 4. Act of editing by instructor approves it. 1. Student creates thread in moderated Forum 2. Student can mark own post as read before approved, but forum summary says 0 unread 1. Student opens first message in a thread 2. Student can choose to Reply to message or Reply to Thread 3. Both mean the same thing. A thorough following of all possilbe workflows will show similar discontinuities.
