MOTIVATION: A short Reflection on the passage from the Romans 1:5-7
“To whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among
all the Gentiles for His name’s sake, among whom you also are called of Jesus Christ;
to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace
from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Answer the following questions

1. What was the role of the laity in propagating the faith of the Filipino people during the
time of Magellan?
The laity play a crucial role in the church, particularly in the spread of faith. They are also co-
heirs of Christ's priesthood, prophetic ministry, and kingship. And they toil for the spread of
God's kingdom on earth.
2. Who were those lay people mentioned by Cardinal Tagle responsible for the faith of the
Filipino people?
Ferdinand magellan
3. How did the Catholic Bishops’Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) praise the laity?
Sharing their knowledge to each other.
4. What are the challenges being posed by the CBCP to the Filipino laity?
The Church needs to avail of technology to not just in imparting the teachings and doctrines of the
Church but in the formation of conscience.
5. What are the things that every Filipino should do to deepen his/her faith?

REFLECTIVE THOUGHT

The laity Play an important role in the church especially in the propagation of faith. They are
also sharers of Christ’s being a priest, prophet, and king. And they labor for the expansion of
God’s kingdom here on earth.

INTEGRATION
ACTIVITY 2- Read and Reflects on the passage of Jeremiah 1: 4-10 page 249 of the worktext.

Answer the processing questions.


1. What was the mission of Jeremiah given by God?
God had chosen Jeremiah to be one of His prophets.
2. How did Jeremiah respond to the call of God?
"I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth," Jeremiah protested, but Yahweh
promised that he would put his own words into Jeremiah's lips and make him a
"prophet to the nations," according to certain scholars.
3. How did God help Jeremiah become a bearer of His message?
Jeremiah spoke up against the iniquity of the people of his time and spoke God's
punishment. He was particularly worried about fake and insincere worship, as well as a
lack to trust Yahweh in national matters.
REFLECTIVE THOUGHT
God had chosen Jeremiah to be one of His prophets. Although Jeremiah was a simple man,
God empowered Him to bring His Word to the people. God assured Jeremiah that He will
Be with Him always. His grace is poured upon him. As God’s messenger Jeremiah encountered
difficulties, but God is always with him. God will always bless
those who heed His call.

ACTIVITY3- Reflect and Take Action. Read the following passages from the Bible. And fill out the
columns opposite each. As a lay missionary, how will you carry out the mission entrusted to you
by God?

ACTIVITY 4- Life of the Saint: St. Isidore the Worker


1. Feastday – May 15
2. An ordinary lay person with extraordinary virtues and holiness
3. A pious farmer married to St. Mary de la Cabeza. Their son died young
They became convinced it was the will of God that they did not have other
children. They lived chastely the rest of their lives, doing good works.
4. Miracles and cures were reported at his grave, in which his body remains
incorrupt.

1. What are the virtues he possessed that are worthy of imitation?

2. Saint Isidore Labrador was known as “Miracle Worker” in his time. People admired him
for his virtue. In what way, you can like him who became a great saint even though he
was just an ordinary farmer?
Saint Isidore is widely venerated as the patron saint of farmers, peasants, day
laborers and agriculture in general, as well as brick layers.
ARTICULATION ON THE TOPICS:

1. The Second Plenary Council (PCP II) turns its focus on the faithful laity after laying down
the hierarchy’s function.
2. The Laity contributes much for the welfare of the church.
3. They are not ordained by Christ and yet are also responsible for the mission of salvation
of the church and of the world.

life.

6. The lay can obtain holiness through devotion, their self-giving and sacrifice.
