2 – (SolidWorks) Make a computer folder with your name and number, where you save your work in this exercise.
Crie uma pasta com o seu nome e número no computador, onde deverá guardar todos os ficheiros que criar para
este exercício.

2.1-Create a model of this assembly / Crie o modelo do conjunto da flange.

Open the part “Flange”. From menu “File” select “Make Assembly from Part”

Make sure the “Flange” is selected on the left, then press the “Ok” button

The first part is insert into the assembly. Solidworks always fixes the first inserted part (see the “(f)” close to the
Flange part name). Next, insert a second instance of part “Flange”. On “Assembly” tab, select “Insert Components”

Once again select the “Flange” on “Open documents”, and move the mouse on the graphics area. A second instance
is attached to the mouse. Drop it. See the tree on the left.

Click the Mate button (the Mate command creates relations between features of different parts)

Then click the inside cylindrical surface on one Flange and next the same surface on the other part

Since both selected surfaces are cylindrical, the “Concentric” option on “Standard Mates” is the default one. Switch
the “Mate alignment” option and then accept with the “Ok” button.

Try to move up and down each one of the flanges. Notice that a warning message is displayed for the first flange

The second flage now has two degrees of freedom (d.o.f.), can move up/down and rotate about the vertical axis.
Move both parts a little apart, to select the next facing mate surfaces. Select both planar faces on each flanges. The
default “Coincident” is automatically selected. Click “Ok”. Now the flange just can rotate about the vertical axis
(means 1 d.o.f.)

Next we need to align one of the “Bolt Holes” to fully constraint both flanges. Click one cylindrical hole on each
flange.

Next we will insert a Bolt, a Washer and a Nut into one of the holes. All parts come from the standard libray named
“Toolbox” (the Toolbox needs to be installed during the Solidworks setup process).
Open the “Design library” on the right, scroll to the ISO standards, expand the Bolts and Screws and click on “Hex
Bolts and Screws”

Drag the “Hex Screw Grade AB ISO 4014” onto the graphics area. Select or edit the listed options on the left
“Configure Component”. Do not insert more screws.

Create the mates for the screw: Concentric with the “Bolt Hole” and Coincident to the “Base” face. Change “Mate
alignment” if needed.
