Control Chart Math Exercises

This document contains 3 problems related to quality management. Problem 1 provides sample error data from 20 workers and asks to set up a p-chart to determine if the process is in control. Problem 2 provides thickness measurements from a sputtering tool across 5 subgroups and asks to set up x-bar and R charts to determine if the process is in control. Problem 3 provides performance data for a computer operator across 6 days and asks to determine control limits for mean and range charts to assess if the process is in control.

Course Title: Quality Management

Problem 1
Clerks at Mosier Data Systems key in thousands of insurance records each day for a variety of
client firms, CEO Donna Mosier wants to set control limits to include 3 sigma variation within
the system. For this purpose, he collects 100 insurance records from 20 workers each and
inspects whether those measures are error free or not. Set up and p control chart on this process.
Is
the process in control?

A TiW layer is deposited on a substrate using a sputtering tool. Table contains layer thickness
measurements (in Angstroms) on 5 subgroups of four samples. Set up an x-bar and R control
charts on this process. Is the process in control?

Problem 3
A computer operator is assigned the duty of installing computer upgrades. To assess his
performance, samples of five observations each have been taken for 6 consecutive days, and the
results are as listed. Determine upper and lower control limits for mean and range charts, and
decide if the process is in control or not.
