Chapter 1 Connect to the Internet
Installation Considerations
For more stable wireless network connection, place your router:

 Near the center of the area where your computers and other devices operate, and

preferably within line of sight to your wireless devices Connect to


the Internet
 On an elevated location such as a high shelf, keeping the number of walls and

ceilings between the router and other devices to a minimum.

 Away from electrical devices that are potential sources of interference, such as

ceiling fans, home security systems, microwaves, PCs, the base of a cordless phone,

or a 2.4GHz cordless phone.

 Away from any large metal surfaces, such as a solid metal door or aluminum studs.

Large expanses of other materials such as glass, insulated walls, fish tanks, mirrors,

brick, and concrete can also affect your wireless signal.

Step 1: Hardware Connection


❶ Connect the router to power supply with the included power adapter;

❷ Connect the Ethernet cable from the incoming Internet side to the WAN port on the

router;

❸ Connect your PC to port 1/2/3/4 on the router with the included Ethernet cable;

❸ You can also use your notebooks, tablets, smart phones, etc. to search this router ’s

wireless network name and connect to the router wirelessly.

Tips:
1. This router’s wireless network name (SSID) is Tenda_XXXXXX by default (where

XXXXXX is the last six characters of the router’s MAC address). You can find the MAC

address on the label attached to the router’s bottom.

2. This router’s wireless network is not encrypted by default.

Step 2: Internet Connection Setup


1. Launch a web browser, say IE, input 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and press Enter.

2. Input the default login username and password (admin, admin) and click Login.

3. When you can log in to this router’s web management page successfully, the following

page will pop out;

Tips:
If login failure occurs, try below solutions:

1. Make sure all cables are connected properly.

2. Please refer to Appendix 1 Configure PC to set your PC to “Obtain an IP address

automatically”.

4. Please follow onscreen instructions to choose the corresponding Internet connection

type: PPPoE, DHCP or Static IP.

❶ Connection Type: Select PPPoE;

❷ ISP User Name, Password: Enter your ISP user name and password;

❸ Wireless Network Name (SSID): Change the wireless network name here as you

like (optional).

❹ Security Key: In order to block others to access your wireless network, you’d better

configure a wireless security key;

❺ Click OK.

❶ Connection Type: Select DHCP;

❷ Wireless Network Name (SSID): Change the wireless network name here as you

like (optional).

❸ Security Key: In order to block others to access your wireless network, you’d better

❶ Connection Type: Select Static IP;

❷ IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Preferred DNS Server, Alternate

DNS Server: Enter the fixed account info provided by your ISP.

❸ Wireless Network Name (SSID): Change the wireless network name here as you

like (optional).

❹ Security Key: In order to block others to access your wireless network, you’d better

configure a wireless security key;

❺ Click OK.

Step 3: Wi-Fi Connection
Tips:
1. The PC you use must have an installed wireless network adapter.

2. If a wired connection has been established between your PC and the router, you can

surf the Internet without joining the Wi-Fi connection. If you want to connect to this

router wirelessly, see below steps for reference.

1. If you cannot find the icon , please move your mouse to the top right corner of your
desktop, select Settings > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and
Sharing Center > Change adapter settings, right click Wi-Fi and select
Connect/Disconnect.
2. If you cannot find your wireless network from the list, ensure the Airplane Mode is not
enabled on your PC.

Product
(1) WAN: Used for connecting to the Ethernet cable from your ISP. Overview
(2) LAN 4/3/2/1: Used for connecting to PCs, APs, routers, etc.

(3) WPS/Reset:

 Enabling the WPS feature and pressing this button for 1~3 seconds allows

clients to connect to this router wirelessly by WPS-PBC.

 Pressing this button for over 7 seconds restores this router to factory default

settings.

(4) Power: Used for connecting to the included power adapter for power supply.

(1) Model: Display the product model.

(2) IP Address: The default login IP address of this router is 192.168.0.1.

(3) Login Password: The default login password of this router is admin.

(4) MAC: Display this router’s MAC address. By default, this router’s wireless network

name (SSID) is Tenda_XXXXXX, where “XXXXXX” is the last six characters of the

MAC address.

Chapter 3 Speed Control
When multiple users have connected to the router for Internet access, you can use this

feature to control their bandwidths, thus ensuring normal Internet service for each user.

Click Bandwidth Control to enter the Bandwidth Control page.

 Example: You share a 4M broadband network with your neighbor. But your neighbor

often downloads files which affects your normal web browsing. To solve this problem, Speed Control

you can divide 4M into 2M on average. In this way, your neighbor’s PC (IP:

192.168.5.101) can share 2M at most.

Configuration Procedures:

❶ Enter the corresponding description info in the Remark field, say, neighbor’s PC

(optional).

❷ Select the corresponding network speed from the Speed Limit drop-down list. If you

select Manually, enter the network speed in the input box as you wish.

❸ Click OK.

Chapter 4 Wireless Repeating
This router can act as a wireless repeater to expand your wireless range. Next we will

explain this to you by giving examples.

Tips:
Wireless
Before configuring this feature, you need to verify that you have the wireless network
Repeating
name (SSID) and security key of the remote router, and no Ethernet cable is connected to

the WAN port of your router.

 Example: If you want to improve your wireless signal range and strength, you can

establish wireless connection between two routers via configuring wireless repeating

settings. You need two routers: one as the base station (the remote router), and the

other as the wireless repeater. This can be implemented by the following two

methods.

Method One: WISP


Application Scenario:

❷ Select the remote router’s wireless network name (SSID) you wish to connect;

❸ Enter the remote SSID’s security key in the Security Key field if it has one.

❹ Click OK.

❺ On the pop-up dialogue box click OK and the router will reboot to activate your

configurations.

Tips:
In this mode, your router can connect to Hotpot (Wi-Fi) for Internet access via PPPoE,

DHCP or static IP.

If it has been configured successfully, go to the WAN Status section of the System Tools

page to view that the network status displays Connected.

Wireless
Repeating

If the following pop-up dialogue box appears, it indicates that IP conflict has occurred due

to the fact that the login IP of the router is on the same network segment as the WAN IP. In

this case, the login IP of the router will be changed to 192.168.1.1 as shown below and

what you need to do is click OK.

Method Two: Universal Repeater
Application Scenario:

❶ Select Universal Repeater;

❷ Select the remote router’s wireless network name (SSID) you wish to connect;

❸ Enter the remote SSID’s security key in the Security Key field if it has one.

❹ Click OK.

❺ On the pop-up dialogue box click OK and the router will reboot to activate your

configurations. Wireless

After the router reboots, view your PC’s IP address it has obtained. If the Default

Gateway is the LAN IP address of the remote router, it means you can surf the Internet.

Tips:
For better maintenance, in the Universal Repeater mode, it is advisable to configure this

router’s login IP to a different one from the remote one’s LAN IP but on the same network

segment. For example, the remote router’s LAN IP is 192.168.2.1, you’d better set this

router’s login IP to 192.168.2.X (2~253).

Chapter 5 Manage Your Network
Click System Tools to enter the System Tools page. This page describes the router

settings for administering and maintaining your router and home network.

❶ New Password: Enter the login password you wish to set;

❷ Confirm Password: Re-enter the login password you’ve set.

❸ Click OK on the bottom of the page.

WAN Port Parameter

MTU
Do not change the default value unless necessary. If you are unable to open some

websites, to receive or send emails, etc. try to minimize the MTU value until your network

returns to normal.

MTU Applications

1500 Typical for connections that do not use PPPoE or VPN.

1492 Used in PPPoE environments.

1472 Maximum size to use for pinging. (Larger packets are fragmented.)

1468 Used in some DHCP environments.


1436 Used in PPTP environments or with VPN.

An incorrect MTU setting can cause Internet communication problems. For example, you

might not be able to access certain websites, secure login pages, or FTP or POP servers.

MAC Clone
Some ISPs will bind your broadband account info to your PC or another specified MAC

address. At this time, you need to clone the MAC address for normal Internet access.

Configuration Procedures:

❶ MAC Clone: Check Use and select local PC’s (When Other is selected, enter the

MAC address you want to clone).

❷ Click OK on the bottom of the page.

Reboot the Router

If some configurations cannot be activated or the router is functioning improperly, click

Reboot.

Restore to Factory Default Network

Do not restore this device to factory default unless necessary. Two methods are available

here.

Method One: Go to Device Management section and click Restore.

Method Two: Press the WPS/Reset button for over 7 seconds when this router is

applying power.

Export System Logs

If you want to have a good knowledge of system operation, or when you have difficulties in

surfing the Internet, you need to send your system logs to our technical supporters, click

Export and then follow onscreen instructions.

Upgrade

If your router is in good use, you’d better not upgrade it. If you want to acquire the latest

software version, you can employ this feature.

Configuration Procedures:

❶ Go to our official website www.tendacn.com to download the latest software.

❷ Enter the System Tools page, click Select a File and then follow onscreen

instructions.

Login IP Address

This section allows you to change your router’s login IP address.

Configuration Procedures:

❶ Login IP Address: Select Manually and enter the IP address you wish to configure,

WPS

Wi-Fi Protected Setup makes it easy for home users who know little of wireless security to

establish a secure wireless home network, as well as to add new devices to an existing

network without entering long passphrases or configuring complicated settings.

WPS application:

1. If your wireless network is not encrypted, WPS can quickly encrypt your wireless

network and make your wireless clients connect to it. Once WPS is successfully

configured, the wireless network name and security key of your router will be changed.

2. If your wireless network is encrypted, WPS can quickly make your wireless clients

connect to it. Once WPS is successfully configured, the wireless network name and

security key of your router won’t be changed.

Tips:
1. To use this feature, your wireless clients must be WPS-capable.

2. Once WPS is successfully configured, the wireless network name and security key of

your router can’t be changed. If you want to, disable WPS on the Device Management

page.

3. Do not enable WPS unless necessary

If your wireless network is not encrypted (wireless network name: Tenda_0BAC88,

security key: not encrypted)

❶ Go to the Device Management section and enable WPS.

❷ Click OK.

2 FAQs
This section provides solutions to problems that may occur during installation and

operation of the device. Read the following if you are running into problems. If your

problem is not covered here, please feel free to go to www.tendacn.com to find a solution

or email your problems to [email protected]. We will be more than happy to help

you out as soon as possible. Appendix

Q: I entered the device’s LAN IP address in the web browser but cannot access the

utility. What should I do?

1. Check whether the device is functioning correctly. The SYS LED should blink a few

seconds and after the device is powered up. If it does not light up, then some internal

faults may have occurred. And the WLAN/WAN/1/2/3/4 LED should be solid or blinking. If

not, please check your cabling.

2. Make sure you’ve set your PC to Obtain an IP address automatically or Use the

following IP address that your PC’s IP address is on the same subnet as the wireless

router. If you are using the recommended addressing scheme, your PC’s address should

be in the range of 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254.

3. Clear your web browser’s cache. Click your web browser’s Tools > Internet Options >

Delete, check Temporary Internet files and Cookies and click Delete (Take IE for

example).

4. Try another browser and input 192.168.0.1 in the address bar to re-log into this router.

5. Uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN. Click your web browser’s Tools > Internet

Options > Connections > LAN Settings and Uncheck Use a proxy server for your

LAN (Take IE for example).

6. If the Work Offline window pops out, click your web browser’s File and uncheck Work

Offline (Take IE for example).

7. Pressing the WPS/Reset button for over 7 seconds restores this device and re-log in to

it.

Q: I cannot access the Internet?

If the Connection Status of the WAN port displays Disconnected, please verify that the

Ethernet cable is correctly connected to the WAN port of your router;

If the Connection Status of the WAN port displays Connecting, try below solutions:

 Clone MAC address

 If your Internet connection type is PPPoE, enter the ISP username and password

correctly (case-sensitive).

Q: How do I block access to my wireless network?

Encrypt your wireless network by configuring a wireless security on the Internet Settings

page.

Q: What should I do if I forget the login password to my device?

Reset your device by pressing the WPS/Reset button for over 7 seconds.

Q: My computer shows an IP address conflict error after having connected to the

device. What should I do?

1. Check if there are other DHCP servers present in your LAN. If there are other DHCP

servers except your router, disable them immediately.

2. The default IP address of the device is 192.168.0.1; make sure this address is not used

by another PC or device. In case that two computers or devices share the same IP

addresses, change either to a different address. Appendix

Q: I cannot access the Internet and send/receive emails; what should I do?

This problem mainly happens to users who use the PPPoE or DHCP Internet connection

type. You need to change the MTU size. In this case, go to WAN Port Parameter section of

the System Tools page to change the MTU value from default 1500 to 1450 or 1400, etc.
