BEE Lab Manual - Exp-3

The document describes wiring a bedroom circuit to control a lamp and fan independently from two locations. A circuit diagram shows the lamp and fan each controlled by two SPDT switches connected in parallel. A layout diagram illustrates the placement of junction boxes and wiring. The procedure explains connecting the live wire to the switch commons, and connecting the tops and bottoms of corresponding switches. The lamp and fan are wired to their respective switches, with neutral wires joined. When tested, the circuit functions as specified in the provided truth table.

BED ROOM WIRING
Ex. No: Date :
Aim:
• To make a circuit of a lamp and a fan connection controlled from two
different places.
• To test and design a bed room wiring.

Accessories Required:
Insulated PVC wire (1/20), PVC pipes, PVC Junction boxes, GI clamps (C-type),
Screws, SPDT electrical switch, Bulb holder/Ceiling-rose
Tools required:
Screw driver, cutting-plier, Pocket-knife, Hammer, Poker, Scale and electrical
tester with neon indicator
Theory:
The common loads in a typical bedroom wiring are a lamp and a fan. The
requirement in the case is controlling both of them, independently from two
points. From the circuit diagram, it is understood that two loads each controlled
from two different places independently.

PROCEDURE:

 The wiring layout is drawn on the wooden board using chalk.

 The junction boxes and PVC pipes are arranged as shown in the layout
diagram. iii. The pipes are fitted to the board at regular intervals using GI
clamps and screws.
 Wires are connected to accessories such as SPDT switches and the lamp
holders as per the wiring diagram as follows:
 The live wire is connected to the common terminals C1and C3of the SPDT
switches S1 and S3respectively.
 The top T1 of switch S1and T2 of switch S2 are connected while B1and B2 of
S1.and S2 respectively is connected.
 Similarly the top and bottom terminals T3, B3 and T4, B4 of SPDT switches
S3andS4are connected in parallel.
 The common terminal C2 of SPDT switch S2 is connected to the lamp terminal
L1.
 The common terminal C3 of SPDT switch S3 is connected to the fan at F1.
LAYOUT AND WIRING DIAGRAM:

Fig-3: Wiring Diagram for Bedroom wiring

 The terminals L2 and F2 are connected and they constitute neutral wires.
 Switches and holders are fitted to respective junction boxes using screws.
 The lamp and fan connections are given.
 The circuit is ready for verification against the truth table.

RESULT:

Thus the wiring for a bedroom is done, tested and verified against the truth
table.

QUIZ:

1. What are the different types of switches and sockets that is used in a
bedroom?

2. What is the name plate details for a Table fan and a ceiling fan?

3. How to compute the fuse rating for a circuit?
