I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


 Identify the four kinds of sentences and its functions.
 Include all the four types in a sentence.
 Appreciate the various sentence structures used in daily conversation.
 Decide which punctuation mark belongs in the given sentence.

II. Subject Matter

Topic- Kinds of Sentences according to Function

Materials used- digital presentations, pictures and word chart.
Value Integration- Develop more interest in reading books or other educational internet
flatforms and used sentences in an ethical way

III. Procedure

(a) Motivation;

The teacher will first show various pictures through a digitalized presentation, and then
she will ask her students what the pictures are about. She will also ask them how they feel
about the images they are seeing and encourage them to make sentences about it.
Following that, the teacher will assign an activity. She will divide the class into four

groups, and each group will be given a specific picture on which to form sentences and
create a scenario. The group with the most interesting outcome will win a prize.

(b) Discussion;

Kinds of Sentences according to Function


 A declarative sentence gives a statement or expresses an opinion. It makes a
declaration and ends with a period.
Example:
a. "I want to be a good TV broadcaster." (makes a statement)
b. "My friend is an outstanding TV broadcaster." (expresses an opinion)

 An imperative sentence makes a command or makes a request. It usually ends


with a period but can, under certain circumstances, complete with an exclamation
point. Example:
a. "Please take your seat."
b. "I need you to take your seat now"

 An interrogative sentence asks questions. It often begins with who, what, where,
when, why, how, or do, and ends with a question mark.
Example:
a. "When are you going to submit your report?"
b. "Do you know when your friends will come to visit us?"

 An exclamatory sentence is a sentence that expresses excellent emotion such


excitement, surprise, happiness, and anger, and ends with an exclamation point.
Example:
a. "It is too dangerous to ride on a zipline!"
b. "I got a perfect score on our exam!

(c) Generalization;
The teacher will ask the students to give examples of the different kinds of sentence.

(d) Application;

Write down the type of each sentence. There is no end punctuation on these sentences
because that may give you the answer. Decide by the function of the sentence and mark
down the end punctuation.
1. Are you aware of the appointment tomorrow
2. Eat your supper
3. Oh, what a beautiful morning
4. Today is my birthday
5. What gifts did you receive for your birthday
6. Pay the bill
7. Shh, don't make any noise
8. Have you finished your homework
9. Debby, turn off the light
10. Brian participated in the baseball tournament

IV. Evaluation;

Direction: Knowing a sentence's design by purpose is helpful. Each of these sentences is


either a declarative (DEC), an interrogative (INT), an exclamatory (EXC), or an
imperative (IMP) one. On a ¼ sheet of paper, write the appropriate three-letter
combination next to its corresponding type of sentence.

10. These are the best seats in the stadium!

V. Assignment

Create a digitalized presentation using MS Presentation, Canva or any flatforms you


know. Write a composition about a place relevant to your life. Include the kinds of
Sentences according to its Function. Post it in our Facebook group. Be creative students,
additional points will be given.
