GIS

GIS Data Format: GeoTIFF | Resolution: 200 meters Capacity Factor Map
The capacity factor map represents the gross estimated plant production for a generic wind project. It is based on the 80-m wind speed map, long-term speed frequency distributions developed by AWS Truewind, and a power curve representing a composite of megawatt-class commercial wind turbines. Like the speed map, it is intended primarily for site screening, conceptual plant design, and preliminary estimates of energy production. The estimates at any location should be confirmed using measurements and appropriate plant production models. No loss assumptions have been applied. The net turbine output will be dependent on various factors including turbine model, number of turbines and their layout, electrical system design, maintenance practices and environmental conditions.

Additional GIS Layers Available

Deliverable Format
Wind Distribution data points (ESRI .shp) at 80 m This file will contain tabular data such as mean annual wind speed and power, Weibull C and K factors, and wind speed frequency in 1 m/s bins at 80 meters. The Latitude and Longitude location will be provided for each point. Wind Rose points (ESRI .shp) at 80 m The wind rose point file will contain the tabular data necessary for the creation of wind rose images such as frequency and speed in 16 different directions relative to the average annual speed at 80 m. Monthly data points (ESRI .shp) at 80 m Diurnal data points (ESRI .shp) at 80 m A stand-alone executable (.exe) will also be included. This custom script will allow the user to generate a graphical plot files (.pdf) for each shape file described above for the entire project area. If preferred, the user can opt to generate a plot for a single location based on a lat-long coordinate.

GIS

GIS Data Format: ESRI Shapefile | Resolution: 2.5 kilometers Projection: UTM, meters (WGS84 datum)
Please note that although your area is defined in Geographic, lat-long coordinates in the Google Maps frame, your project area will be re-projected and delivered in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM), meters. The most appropriate UTM zone for your project area will be selected.
Disclaimer: The wind map you will receive was created by AWS Truewind using MesoMap and fine tuned with measurements from over 1000 towers from both public and authorized private data sources throughout the United States. The map values have been determined objectively to be within 0.35 m/s of the true speed at over 68% of points. The map and associated GIS data are intended mainly for site screening, conceptual plant design, and preliminary estimates of energy production. For applications requiring greater accuracy, the wind resource estimates should be confirmed by measurement.
