MATH 9 FIRST QUARTER PROJECT & OTHER TASKS

Parabolas are very well-known and are seen frequently in the field of mathematics. Their applications are varied
and are apparent in our everyday lives. For example, the main image of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco,
California. It has main suspension cables in the shape of a parabola.

Click and watch the link below. This is all about the view/shape of parabola in real life.

Quadratic Functions and Parabolas in the Real World

Goal – Construct a bridge that connects Barangay Cassiciacum to the town center.

Task

Barangay Cassiciacum is a small barangay near the town center. However, the residents who travel by
foot take almost an hour to go to the market, church, or school because of a river that divides it from the town
center. To address this concern, the local government came up with an idea of constructing a bridge that connects
Barangay Cassiciacum to the town center.

As a team comprising of two architects, a barangay representative, and a barangay chairman, you are
tasked by the Office of the City Mayor to submit a report that contains a blueprint of a bridge, a proposal on things
to consider when constructing the bridge, and specific guidelines on how to maintain the infrastructure.
Your report will be evaluated based on the following standards: design effectiveness, creativity, quality of
the proposal, writing mechanics, and timeliness.

Roles – architect, barangay representative, barangay chairman

Audience – City Mayor

Situation – Barangay Cassiciacum is a small barangay near the town center. However, the residents who travel by

center.

Product – a report that contains a blueprint of a bridge, a proposal on things to consider when constructing the
bridge, and specific guidelines on how to maintain the infrastructure.

Standards – design effectiveness, creativity, quality of the proposal, writing mechanics, and timeliness

ROLES AND OUTPUTS

Output 1 (c/o architect/s): Blueprint of the bridge

Output 2 (c/o brgy. representative): Things to consider when constructing the bridge (with explanation)

Output 3 (c/o brgy chairman): Specific guidelines on how to maintain the bridge
