6 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
For an adequate maintenance of the unit, EDIBON recommends to take into account
the aspects explained below.
Ed.: 17 Pg.: 3 / 7
Generally, every unit from EDIBON must be clean at all times. Externally,
they must be free of dust, water or any other substance; and internally, they must
always be free from any residue of fluid or substance that may remain after the
corresponding test session.
b) Do not leave any rest of fluid or substance inside the circuit or outside
the unit when finishing the practical exercises.
Ed.: 17 Pg.: 4 / 7
The units have been devised and designed to work with them in a normal
human comfort environment. Therefore, their use under other conditions will cause
their progressive deterioration and their working life will be shortened considerably.
For that reason, the unit must be kept, approximately, at 22ºC and 50% of relative
humidity.
a.1) Avoid leaving the unit connected to the mains after its use.
a.2) Avoid leaving the unit exposed to sunlight or to a direct light source, receiving
excessive light for a long time.
a.4) Avoid leaving the unit in a saline environment. It may accelerate its deterioration
drastically due to corrosion.
a.5) Avoid leaving the unit with chemical products, water or other substances during
several days or longer periods. EVEN HIGHLY RESISTANT MATERIALS CAN
END UP CORRODING WITH TIME DUE TO THE EFFECT OF THOSE
AGENTS.
a.6) Those units with portable elements will need a suitable lubrication.

Due to different circumstances the unit might remain inactive for long
periods. If, for any reason, the unit were not to be used for more than one year, it is
recommended to start it up, at least for a short period of time. That should be done
twice or three times per year, since NOT USING the equipment may cause more
damage to it than a frequent use.
Ed.: 17 Pg.: 6 / 7
The deterioration of the laboratory facilities which supply the unit is often
a source of problems that cause a deterioration of the unit. For this reason, facilities
must be checked and kept properly.
6.4.1 Electricity
Make sure that the laboratory’s safety systems, such as thermal magnetic
circuit breakers, residual current devices, fuses, etc., are in a correct operation
position. Besides, it must be checked that the supply values (voltage, power, current,
frequency, etc.) are the suitable and required ones for the unit.
6.4.2 Water
Make sure that the laboratory’s water supply has an adequate pressure
within a logical range, and specially make sure that it does not contain ions or
elements which may deposit, rust, calcify or cause chemical or catalytic reactions,
causing a deterioration or obstruction of the unit’s internal circuits. The use of filters
is recommended to avoid such problems.
6.4.3 Air
Make sure that the laboratory’s air supply has the pressure required by the
unit and a suitable humidity degree. For that purpose, there must be a regulating
valve and a filter to adjust these parameters to those required by the unit. The use of
an air supply line without the appropriate humidity filter will cause an ingress of
water into some elements of the unit. As a consequence, water could deteriorate
them.
