When you hear the term "video," What comes to your mind?

VIDEO
- refer to the electronic storage of moving images
- originated from the Latin word “vidi” which means “I see”

Video is an electronic medium for the recording, copying, playback, broadcasting, and display of
moving visual media.

TYPES OF VIDEOS
1. ANIMATION (DUMBO)
- When you hear the word “animation”, your first thought might be a childrens’ cartoon. But animation
is so much broader than that.
Animation is a method by which still figures are manipulated to appear as moving images. In
traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be
photographed and exhibited on film. Many animations are made with computer-generated imagery.

2. MUSIC VIDEO( TAYLOR SWIFT: LOOK WHAT YOU’VE MADE ME DO)

- A music video, sometimes abbreviated to M/V, is a video that integrates a song or an album with
imagery that is produced for promotional or musical artistic purposes.

3. EDUCATIONAL (BORN TO BE WILD(2011 FILM))

- An educational film is a film or movie whose primary purpose is to educate. Educational Films have
been used in classrooms as an alternative to other teaching methods.

4. STOP MOTION (LEGO)

- Stop motion is actually just another form of animation. It stills requires you to create all the visual
elements for your video, but stop motion must be created frame by frame and cant be captured
digitally ( like most animations are these days). Ecah element seen on screen has been created by a
team behind the scenes. Everytime anything moves on screen the camera has to be stopped, and the
items and characters re-positioned for the next scene.

One of the most popular examples of stop motion animation is the WALLACE AND GROMIT series
of short films.

5. LIVE ACTION (ENCHANTED(2007 DISNEY MOVIE))

- live action is a form of cinematography or videography that uses photography instead of animation.
That means real people, real sets, real props. Some works combine live-action with animation to create a
live-action animated film. Live action is used to define film, video games or similar visual media.

6. LIVE STREAM (Alodia Gosiengfiao)

- Live streaming is still relatively new in comparison to some of the other types of video on this list.
It’s basically the process of streaming live to your audience via a social networking platform like
youtube and facebook. With more and more video content being uploaded online every second, live
streaming offers an oppurtunity to stand out. The grat thing about live streams is that you can save
them to your channel or page after they’ve ended, so if anyone misses them in real time then they can
catch up later.

Alodia Gosiengfiao - is the top 1 pinoy gamer and was already well-known for her work as a cosplayer,
ventured out to pursue her interest in gaming. She began broadcasting gameplay of games such as Dota
and League of Legends. This top streamer in the Philippines is considered to be one of the early
pioneers of gaming on facebook and currently has more than 6.9 million followers.

CHARACTERISTICS of VISUAL LEARNERS

- Visual learners learn best by seeing information. The following characteristics are typical for many
individuals with strong visual processing skills.

1. Information presented in pictures, charts or diagrams is easily remembered.

2. Visual learners have strong visualization skills. They can look up (often up to the left) an see” the
information invisibly written or drawn.
3. Visual learners can make “movies in their minds” of information they are reading. Their movies are
often vivid and detailed.

4. Visual-spatial skills such as sizes, shapes, textures, angles, and three-dimensional depths are strong.

5. Visual learners often pay close attention to the body language of others (facial expression, eyes,
stance, etc.)

6. Visual learners have a keen awareness of the aesthetics, the beauty of the physical environment,
visual media, or art.

VIDEO FORMATS

There are two parts to any video file: a container and a codec. Music, video, subtitles, and other
metadata are all stored in the video format. A program called a codec is used to encode and decode
multimedia data, including audio and video.
While creating a video, an audio codec does the same with the sound while a video codec does the
same with the video. The synchronised video and audio are then saved in a file format media container
after being encoded.

VIDEO FILE: CONTAINER AND CODEC

8 Types of Video Files Format

1. MP4 - The MP4 format is the standard format for web videos because MP4 videos are high-quality
with relatively small file sizes.
The most prevalent video file format is MP4. MP4, Apple’s preferred format, is compatible with most
other devices. It stores video, audio, and text files using the MPEG-4 encoding process but has a lesser
resolution than others. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram videos look great in MP4.

2. MOV - The MOV file format was designed by Apple to support the Quicktime player and is used
primarily for video editing. People don’t typically publish MOV videos directly to the web or send
them in emails because of the large file size. However, this large file size means that MOV files
typically offer higher quality than MP4s and other video types.
Although MOV (QuickTime Movie) files store high-quality video, audio, and effects, they can be fairly
large. MOV files were created by Apple for QuickTime Player and use MPEG-4 encoding to play with
QuickTime for Windows. Facebook and YouTube both accept MOV, which works great for viewing
TV.

3. AVI - AVI files are unique because they offer very high-quality audio, which is a feature you don’t
get in some of the other video types. Because AVI files offer excellent video and audio quality, file
sizes are typically much larger.
AVI (Audio Video Interleave) works with practically every web browser on Windows, Mac, and Linux
PCs. Audio Video Interleave, which Microsoft created, has the highest quality but also the largest file
sizes. YouTube supports it, and it works nicely for watching TV.

4. WMV - WMV, or Windows Media Video, is a video format that was developed by Microsoft for
use with Windows operating systems. Because WMV was created for Windows, Apple and Linux
devices don’t typically offer out-of-the-box support for WMV playback.
The WMV (Windows Media Viewer) files, like MOV files, have good video quality and huge file
sizes. Microsoft created WMV for Windows Media Player. Apple users can see these videos because
YouTube supports WMV, but they need first download Windows Media Player for Apple. Remember
that WMV does not let you choose your aspect ratio.

5. AVCHD - AVCHD is a format that was originally developed by Sony and Panasonic for
camcorders. This file format is designed to capture a high-quality version of a video directly after it’s
been recorded, that way you have a high-resolution video you can use when you’re ready to edit your
video.
Advanced Video Coding High Definition is a high-definition video coding program. These files were
created for Panasonic and Sony digital camcorders, and they compress for convenient storage without
sacrificing quality.

6. WEBM - The WebM format was developed by Google and released in 2019 as HTML5 grew in
popularity. This video format is specifically designed for the web, but the biggest issue it faces is a lack
of support.
These formats are ideal for embedding videos on your personal or professional website. They have to
load quickly and stream smoothly since they are small files.

7. FLV - There was a time when Flash video (FLV) was the most common video type, but that’s no
longer the case since Flash Player was discontinued at the end of 2020. Flash Player is no longer
included with popular web browsers, and anyone who tries to play an FLV video on the web will see
an error message instead of the video.
Although the FLV, F4V, and SWF (Shockwave Flash) video codecs were created for Flash Player, they
are frequently used to broadcast videos on YouTube. iOS devices do not support Flash.

8. MKV - Matroska Multimedia Container happens to be a free and open-source multimedia container
format that was developed in Russia. It can play almost any codec, although many programs don’t
support it.
Matroska Multimedia Container happens to be a free and open-source multimedia container format that

you plan to watch your video on a TV or computer with an open-source media player like VLC or
Miro, MKV is a good choice.

SPECIAL ATTRIBUTES of MEDIA

1. Manipulation of Time – video permits us to increase the amount of time required to observe an
event.

1.a. Compression of time – known as time lapse

1.b. Expansion of time – time can be expanded in motion media through technique called slow motion

2. Manipulation of Space – motion media permit us to view phenomena in microcosm and macrocosm
– that is, at extremely close range or from a vast distance.
"Macrocosm" and "microcosm" are philosophical terms referring, respectively, to the world as a whole
and to some part, usually man, as a model or epitome of it. According to one version of this ancient
analogy, man and the universe are constructed according to the same harmonic proportions, each
sympathetically attuned to the other, each a cosmos ordered according to reason. By an imaginative
leap, the universe itself was thought to be, like man, living and conscious, a divine creature whose
nature is reflected in human existence.
"Microcosm" can signify not only man in relation to the universebut also any part of a thing, especially
a living thing, that reflects or represents the whole it belongs to, whenever there is a mirroring relation
between the whole and each of its parts.

Macrocosm the whole of a complex structure, especially the world or the universe, contrasted with a
small or representative part of it.

3. Animation – is a technique whereby the film maker gives motion to otherwise inanimate objects
