Assignment Introduction
This is the report of final assignment for the unit of Development as a Strategic Manager.
Reference number of this unit is 724 with 15 credit hours. This unit helps to learn about
leadership, its effectiveness, development of leadership skills and traits of a strategic manager.
It is a final assignment of this unit so its aims and objectives of this report to assess the learning
of individuals throughout the study period of unit. It helps the teachers to analyse the ability of a
person working as senior managers at any organizational workplace.
Scope of this report is limited to working ability of a leader and leadership development as a
strategic manager. This report includes four tasks that explore strategic management in different
perspectives. Task one provides a brief introduction of selected Fleet Space Technologies, its
managerial and leadership competencies, and required skills of a senior manager to achieve
strategic objectives. Task 2 explores personal development plan working as a senior manager
using SMART objectives and techniques. Task 3 highlights the leadership styles, leadership
development and critically review the leadership style of Fleet Space Technologies. The last task
explores the commitment of an organization for employee welfare and its impacts on their
workspace and the process to achieve strategic goals. At last, the report is concluded leading to
the references of report insights.

Organization Information Summary
To relate assignment questions answers the Fleet Space company is selected centred in south
Australia. It is an agile space company working on a mission to provide superior communication
for better civilization using different technologies like internet of things and space technologies.
Basically, Fleet Space company produce low coast satellites that help to connect the world with
internet of things. Fleet space working on the aim to provide low-cost satellites that are also
smart and small in size but able to connect the devices of world using its gigantic flotilla
(Satellite communications and space exploration | Fleet Space Technologies, 2022).
Fleet space founded in 2015 with only three people at start-up that reach 32 in August 2020.
During a short period of time less than a decade company made great success under the support
of south Australian government. They made history in 2018 by launching their four
nanosatellites for Australia named as Proxima 1, Proxima 2, Centauri 1 and Centauri 2. Further
they are planning to launch Centauri 3 and working on the plan to launch at Moon & Mars
constellation with 22 partners. Because of their innovative ideas they also got support from
international investors. They also announced a new strategy that is about the development of a 3-
dimensional small satellite range called as Alpha. This plan is under development and soon will
be able to work along their Centauri range having some extra coverage range with lower latency
(SASIC, 2022).

Task 1:
1.1 Vision and Strategic Objectives of Fleet Space Technologies
Founder and CEO of Fleet Technologies – Flavia Tata Nardini stated that their vision is connect
everyone regardless of their location around the world. Fleet Space aims to connect people
through internet of things and space technologies whether they are in remote areas or navigating
in oceans. They are working on a new series that empowered their vision lead to a new level. The
new constellation of mini satellites is the expansion of Centauri constellation that work on 3D-
prints harmony for the first time named as Alpha for low Earth orbit. Fleet Space technologies
want to become global leader in space technology and support Australia to grow in the field of
space technology by bringing together the innovation, implementation, and servicing space
technology (Satellite communications and space exploration, 2022).
Working on their vision Fleet Space announces their future strategy that they are launching first
constellation of new 3D-printing small satellites after 12 months. Alpha constellation is assumed
to work with existing Centauri constellation. Company aims to deliver a small satellite that
expand the coverage with near-zero latency. This project aims to unlock the dependencies in
connection far away connection using extremely cost-effective means (Spatial Source, 2022).
1.2 Managerial and Leadership Competencies
Working as a senior manager at Fleet space technologies the managerial and leadership
competencies are those work abilities that are required to complete internal development process
effectively from requirement gathering to implementing the service. The senior manager
supervises the project teams thoroughly demonstrating leadership skills to work on new
opportunities by visualising insights about customers, space tech industry and general market.
The workspace of Fleet Space has open work culture enables everyone to work on innovative
ideas while focusing on desired outcomes and as a senior manager it is necessary to
communicate openly and directly with software engineers that are the key entity of successful
development. As Fleet Space is still on start-up level, so it is necessary to make decisions quickly
and make every effort to drive innovation continuously (Understanding the Role and
Responsibilities of a Senior Manager, 2022).

1.3 Significant Skills to Enhance Future Strategic Direction
To enhance the future strategic direction any senior management or leadership roles must have
the abilities to find opportunities before their competitors. While working in space technology,
the management must aware the new trends and upcoming technologies that may help to strive in
competitive market and secure the position as number one satellite providers. A senior manager
must be skilled enough comfortable to challenge the assumptions made by others or by self and
view them as a common vision superintendent by innovation strategy. These skills do not ask to
work always in success but require learning from mistakes and repeat the process with new ideas
and solution for previous problems (Strategic Leadership: The Essential Skills, 2022).
The future strategy of Fleet’s Alpha constellation brings new opportunities. The main
perspective is to reach the deadline by launching 3D-printers’ mini satellites having Fleets
overbearing technology that increase the throughput of customer data and incorporate multiple
customer channels based on internet of things. Some key skills that a senior manager of Alpha
project must have to make the launch successful are following.
Must have the ability to highlight the possible threats and barriers as well as opportunities
on the way of successful launch of Alpha constellation.
Think ability to find root cause of problems instead of watching symptoms.
Better interpret and decide in critical situations.
Learn from failures and openly collaborate with developers to fix problems.

a senior manager as Fleet Space technologies must plan to accomplish Fleet’s long-run ambition
to become a leader in the field of space technology and to achieve the future strategies efficiently
and efficiently. Major key skills to achieve strategic ambition are listed below.
1. Vision: a senior manager must have a clear vision of its responsibilities in accordance
with strategy of company and the desired outcomes.
2. Intuitiveness and perception: ability to be an intuitive and perception of things working
around a project may help to unlock the roadblocks that allow to innovate and improve
the condition.
3. Perseverance: it is an important fact about a nature of manger or leader. It should not
demoralise or discouraged after a failure instead it should learn from failure and work
again with new courage.
4. Communication: a persuasive communication skill must have effective outcomes in the
way to achieve strategic ambition by establishing an open communication at workspace
(Small business, 2022).

Task 2:
2.1 Environmental Conditions and Effective Leadership Development
Leadership is a role that requires a person to manage workspace resources to obtain sustainable
business outcomes. An effective leader makes the foundation stronger and grow continuously.
There are many factors that influence effective leadership development. Environmental
conditions are also a factor that influence the effective leadership development in both positive
and negative way. Vardiman et al., (2006) proposed a contextual model for effective leadership
development that examine the environmental support to develop leadership at individual
characteristics. These leadership characteristics and their interrelations helps to indicate some
likely consequences that may affect the selection of leadership. According to this model, there
are two main factors that influence effective leadership development, and these are individual
characteristics and environmental conditions. A supportive environment stipulate ethos that
provides support and encourage effective leadership.
Each workspace has different environment that influence the leadership. less supportive
environment may discourage the leader to stand up for net opportunity to be successful. Fleet
Space technologies have a friendly environment where all developers are allowed to work
innovatively to reach a combined goal or product. working as a senior manager at Fleet Space
technologies there is need to promote sustainable actions that allow workers to protect the natural
workspace environment and make decisions based on the previously set organizational goals
(Environmental Leadership, 2022).
2.2 Leadership Skills
Fleet Space Technologies working to provide robust communication ways through internet of
things around the globe. To manage their underdeveloped mini satellites and the strategies for
upcoming releases a senior leader must have skills to manage the workflow for both situations
leveraging the aims and objectives of company. There are multiple frameworks that help to
evaluate the personal leadership skills however The Structural and Human Resource frameworks
are more appropriate for this purpose (CCL, 2022). Using both I concluded that the following
skills may help to manage my leadership to perform my responsibilities.
2.2.1 Communication

A leader must be clear about its communication that for whom it is communicating and what
needs to be discussed. An effective and persuasive communication skill is necessary for a leader.
2.2.2 Co-worker Skills
a leader must know that how to utilize the co-worker skills to get benefits to achieve dedicated
outcomes.
2.2.3 Decision Making
As Fleet Space technologies mentioned that they are a start-up company so its senior managers
must have the ability to make quick decision and work consequently.
2.2.4 Creativity and Collaboration
I use one-size-fit-all approach being a leader to openly discuss new ideas, opportunities, and
viewpoints of co-workers.
2.2.5 Flexibility and Understanding
In a complex and critical situation, a leader must show flexible and understandable traits.
Alongside above-mentioned skills a leader must be able to conflict management, where to invest
management, and honesty over diplomacy traits. A leader must know how to manage its
responsibilities and motivate developers to reach their goal (10 Leadership Traits for Senior
Management, 2022).
2.3 Future Development Plan
Fleet Space Technologies currently selling Proxima and Centauri satellite constellations and
working on a future strategy to launch 3D-printing mini satellite that is the extension of Centauri
series and work with them with improved near-zero latency. However, Fleet Space is working on
another mega project with 22 partners to reach Mars and Moon. To apply the devised future
strategies into work and make sure to be successful the senior management must create a future
development plan. To devise a personal development plan with SMART objectives and tangible
outcomes that can be reviewed and updated I follow the 5 smart goals that are scheduled below
(Tony Robbins, 2022).

Specific: this approach clearly states that where I am and what I have to do to make a successful
launch of Alpha mini satellite reaching 12 months target.
Measurable: the cost required to incur in future project and milestones to achieve.
Attainable: along with the Alpha other launch plans for next 3 years – main to reach Moon,
Mars
Realistic: assessing the goals under the realm of possibility that can be achievable.
Time Frame: this clearly state the time duration decided to achieve a milestone.

Task 3:
3.1 Evaluation of Outcomes
The location of Fleet Space Technologies is in Adelaide that is known as the rapidly emerging
and growing region with excellent space technologies in Australia. With their advancement and
dominance, it is becoming the global centre of evolving space technologies. Under the
supervision and financial support of South Australian government, Fleet Space successfully
launched 6 satellites residing in orbit having a distinction of being only commercial satellites of
Australia. However, the launch of 140 extended satellites that will be cheap in price, advance in
technology, provide more connectivity portals with near zero latency. Previous satellites are
working in main space orbits, but the new Alpha nanosatellites will reside in Low Earth Orbit
(Technologies, 2022).
To achieve the future strategic goals, Alpha constellation manufacturing and development
process will be under regular surveillance from the process of designing, engineered and
manufactured at hyper factory. To increase the speed and reach of connectivity of Alpha the
partner company and developers are working on complimentary constellation. This will
collaborate Centauri and Alpha by integrating beamforming antennas.
The Australian Space Park in which Fleet Space Technology will construct another Hyper
Factory will be the first of its sort in the southern side of the equator. Four organizations, Fleet
Space Technologies, Q-CTRL, ATSpace, and Alauda Aeronautics, will co-situate in a reason
fabricated office with an emphasis on coordinated effort and creation of little satellites and their
payloads, rockets, electric vertical take-off, and landing vehicles (eVTOL), and supporting
componentry and specialized frameworks (Space Tech Journal, 2022).
3.2 Impact of Leadership Styles on Company
There are diverse leadership styles and each style effect business in different ways like it may
affect morale of employees, slow the decision-making process, and different metrics got effects
as well. A successful leader performs its role in more effective way by avoiding the mentioned
negative effects. Leadership style may impact its growth to improve if a leader investigates
problems carefully, indulge co-workers, assess needed skills of employees, contemplate possible
substitutes, and make quick but perfect decisions. So, it is important and crucial as well to select

a leadership style that may be autocratic, bureaucratic, democratic, charismatic, situational,
transactional, or transformational (Middle Management Techniques, 2022).
As a senior manager I would like to show traits of a transformational leadership style because I
want to be a leader that provide a chance to change, renovate ideas, collaborate in process, and
help employees to grow themselves as contributors not like workers. I believe that this leadership
approach helps me to get best outcomes and got positive results already. Practicing traits of
transformational leadership style that is also a most desired type of leadership this may impact
Fleet Space technologies in a positive way by increasing the morale of developers, engaging
them in production, taking their reviews for quick decision making, openly communicate and
provide a roadmap towards their own success while focusing on company’s success (Library
Worklife, 2022).
3.3 Leadership Development Plan
At every level of business organizations of any industry, behind the success of any organization
these are leaders who make the company reach the level by finding and availing the
opportunities, engaging appropriate personnel, resolve critical issues, mange resources and make
decisions. However, if a leader wants to improve its performance than it may assess itself by
creating a leadership development plan. While working with Fleet Space Technologies, I assess
my leadership and got shocking results that I need to improve my skills (How to Create a
Personal Leadership Development Plan, 2022). The key activities I performed are listed below.
1. First, I did comparison of the skills I have and the required skills to perform my job
activities. Here I realized that if I improve my skills then it will be more beneficial to
achieve dedicated goals.
2. I found that I have not enough experience the leverage the technical development
environment, so I peruse the training session to get more knowledge.
3. To grow the business, it is required to make new relations to increase the growth and
financial aid for new projects.
4. Making sure to highlight the daily tasks and then find a way to complete.
5. Assessing my personal skills for effective leadership.

Task 4:
4.1 Impact of Employee Welfare Commitment
A workplace environment that shows commitments for employee welfare may have more
positive results by increasing their loyalty to work and higher retention rate that help to achieve
organizational objectives in more effective way. The longer tenure and engagement of loyal
employees take the production to a higher level. Obligations to employee welfare may have two-
folded effects that may decrease the profit lass and increase the presentism of employees. The
employee welfare or wellbeing can generate the following benefits.
1. A positive attitude towards the performance of assigned duties favouring the company.
Like the developers of Fleet space show more concern toward their work.
2. Employees can feel more secure while working at workspace because developers cannot
perform their duties in tense environment.
3. A friendly and positive relationship among co-workers that provide more innovative
ideas and developers feel to work freely.
4. Performing an optimistic role that is beneficial for company’s objectives.
According to the study of Owais and Jamid (2017) resolving to staff welfare assistance is
consequently, both a moral and monetary need, at last adding to an association's actual endurance
assuming laid out such that thinks about all parts of a welfare assistance culture. Fleet Space
Technologies must create a plan about their employment welfare because with a tension free
mind employees provide more efficient skills.
4.2 Employment Welfare Culture
Fleet space technologies is a company that work both on designing and development of satellites.
They have centres to develop the logical design using aerospace technology as well as hyper
factories to physically embed the metallic bodies and programs. There is a tendency in public
market that girls are not appropriate in development environments, but Fleet Space has a diverse
workforce including both male and females. Fleet Space technologies is working on employee
welfare plans because some female employees stated that they feel more comfortable like home
while working as a developer at Fleet Space. Establishment of a robust employment culture Fleet
Space Technologies can get many benefits (WiseStep, 2022).

employees by increasing the level of their welfare or well-being. Staff welfare assistance worries
about offering the right help to improve prosperity, guaranteeing a positive and sound individual
worker, group, as well as association. The prosperity of staff incorporates their physical,
enthusiastic, and mental states. It is the obligation of line chiefs to look for the most effective
