Line Plots Presentation

This document discusses linear relationships and how to analyze data that shows a linear trend. It explains that a linear relationship is characterized by two variables that change proportionally to one another and form a straight line when graphed. The document shows how to calculate the slope and y-intercept of a linear trendline using data points, and how to write the equation of the line in slope-intercept form. It provides examples of calculating these values from graphs and interpreting if a relationship is linear based on the shape of its graph.

Linear Relationship

A linear relationship is characterized by

an increase or decrease of one variable
as the other one also changes.

When the variables are plotted in a

graph, a straight line is formed.
Let's plot the values!

Slope-intercept Form

The equation of the line

can be written using the y = mx + b
slope-intercept form.
slope y-intercept
Slope describes the steepness
and the direction of a line.

It is calculated using:
rise Δy y2 - y 1

How do you calculate the
y-intercept of a line?

Y-intercept is the point where

the graph crosses the y-axis.

Calculate the y-intercept by

determining the value of y
when x is zero.
Let's calculate the y-intercept!
Substitute the values
of m = 2.06 and one
data point (1.00,
2.26) in the equation.
Then, solve for y. y = mx + b

2.26 = 2.06(1.00) + b

b = 2.26 - 2.06 = 0.2

Let's calculate the y-intercept!
