Updated Guidelines On Post Graduate Internship Program
Department of Health
It is the responsibility of the Department to expose the Post-Graduate Intern/s in the different
clinical areas that is relevant to medical practice by having them assigned clinical work in the
following areas
• Ward
• Emergency Department
• Intensive Care Unit
• Out-Patient Department
It is the responsibility of the Department to provide the Post-Graduate Intern/s with clinical
knowledge relevant to the practice of through:
• Conferences
• Teaching rounds
It is the responsibility of the Department to evaluate the Post-Graduate Intern/s in line with their
knowledge, skills, and attitude through
• Written and oral examinations
• Case presentation
• Attitude evaluation
Objectives
a. To provide relevant clinical experience in the practice of Internal Medicine
b. To provide relevant knowledge in the Internal Medicine in preparation for the
Philippine Physician Licensure
c. To develop the core values expected of being a physician such as
professionalism, respect, accountability, commitment, teamwork, integrity,
compassion, excellence, and social responsibility
Duties and responsibilities
General:
Attendance
a. Regular Office Hours
Regular office hours are from Mondays to Fridays, 8:00am to 5:00 pm. The post-
graduate intern shall remain in his/her assigned post during these regular office hours
b. Duty
Post-graduate interns shall go on duty every three (3) days from 7am to 7:00
pm and 7pm to 7am the following dav. The post-graduate intern shall remain in his/her
assigned post during these Duty hours

The following are the minimum competencies to be achieved in the four major areas of internship
during the pandemic period:
• Performed, write and supervise a complete history and physical examination (PE) in at least
5 adults of different subspecialties, construct the salient features and problem list and
formulate a logical diagnosis and differential diagnosis and management.
• Demonstrate skill in taking targeted history in the non-Covid emergency room and the
outpatient services
• Demonstrate skill in the performance of the following procedures:
• 4 Venipuncture
• 2 NGT insertion
• 2 male and female indwelling catheter insertion
• Interpret correctly the common laboratory procedures, arterial blood gas results, PPD
testing, ECG and chest x-ray.

Evaluations
The Post-graduate intern shall be evaluated and provided a final grade by the department based on
the following
Graded written examination to be given by the senior residents.
5 written case report on a cases assigned at ward by the assigned resident in the emergency room
area. The evaluation tool for oral examination of the first year residents shall be used.
Exit case presentation to be presented in a regular conference.
i. The attitude evaluation shall be given by the assigned resident in the ward. An
attitude evaluation tool specific for interns shall be used
ii. The Final grade is computed through the following
1. Long exam - 25%
2. Quizzes - 10%
3. Oral case conference – 25%
4. Written case report – 10%
5. Attendance - 15%
6. eOPD evaluation by residents (hx taking, working impression, rationale for
labs) – 15%
7. A passing of 60% of final grade shall be imposed; failure to meet a passing
grade shall result in a repeat rotation.
Offenses:
Tardiness
Excused absence= 12 hour make up
Unexcused absence= 36 hour makeup
3 lates= 1 excused absence
No make ups required for Covid 19 quarantine
Make up shall be done at the end of their internship year as per accordance to the APMC guideline
Attitude
Major offenses
Insubordination (as duly reviewed and evaluated by the core consultants)
Going on duty intoxicated
Falsification of documents
Fighting with other staff (as duly reviewed and evaluated by the core consultants)
Failure to present a case as per assignment and schedule

Major offenses
Ordering on the chart without the permission of the assigned resident (duly signed)
Discharging a patient without permission of the assigned resident (duly signed)
Doing major medical procedures without the supervision of the
assigned resident (thoracentesis, paracentesis, Intubation, lumbar puncture, Cardiopulmonary
Minor offense
Repeated and consistent failure to accomplish
Progress notes
Admitting history
Clinical abstract
Discharge summary
Tagubilin
Laboratory requests
In case there is a disagreement or discrepancy with other guidelines (e.g OPET, CSCI), then the higher
punishment will be given
Sanctions
One major offense shall be levied with punishment as duly agreed by the core consult staff
three major offenses merit automatic expulsion
Three minor offenses are equivalent to one major
