THREE WARM UP GAMES

Part A - WARM UP GAMES PROFORMA PDHPE (students are to use one part A proforma for each of the 4 games, one page for each one)

Name of the Game: Rock n roll

Stage: Stage 1

Explanation : Students are in groups of four. Students stand in a line facing forwards with their feet spread apart. The person at the back of the line is to roll a ball (rock) in between their groups legs, then run to the front and pick it up. They then pass the ball to the person behind them, and this continues until the ball reaches the back. This cycle continues until each student has had a turn. Once finished, the team is to sit down. The first team to sit down wins. Why is this game important for this stage? Develops upon the understanding of the importance of teamwork. It allows students to engage in different responsibilities for their team. Encourages students to start applying different skills into one game.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Communicating: COS1.1 Communicates appropriately in a variety of ways. Indicators: -Shows understanding and encouragement to Interacting: INS1.3- Develops positive relationships with peers and other people. Indicators: - Displays group cooperation in group activities. Moving: MOS1.4- Demonstrates maturing performance of basic movement and compositional skills in a variety of predictable situations.

Equipment and Teaching cues: 1 round ball Ensure the students do not get so close to each other that the game becomes unsafe. If the game is too easy, alter it by asking students to place the hands of the student on front of them, to create a bigger gap between students.

Name of the Game: Pirates Treasure

Stage: Stage 2

Explanation : The class is split into two groups. Behind the two groups of students is a hula hoop with 10 tennis balls inside it. Each student is given a number, eg: three students from team one are no. 1 and vice versa. When a particular number is called, the three student s from each team with that number run and attempt to steal the other teams treasure. The students who arent attempting to get the treasure must tag the pirates. If a student is successful, they then take their treasure back to their own treasure chest (hula hoop). The team with the most treasure at the end (signified by a whistle blow) is the winner. Why is this game important for this stage? Displays the effectiveness and benefits of working cooperatively as a team. Encouragement amongst the team is often displayed, boosting self-esteem. Students are able to develop their strategic skills.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Moving: MOS2.4 Displays a focus on quality of movement in applying movement skills to a variety of familiar new situations. Interacting: INS2.3 -Makes positive contributions in group activities. Indicators: Problem Solving: PSS2.5 - Uses a range of problem solving strategies. Indicators:

Indicators: Is able to run at desired speed in desired direction. Is able to dodge in desired direction.

Helps others to achieve set tasks. Displays tolerance in reaction to individual differences, eg ability levels.

Perform a simple movement sequence given particular limitations Eg, space. Identifies what needs to be done to achieve a goal.

Equipment and Teaching cues: 2 hula hoops 20 tennis balls bibs to determine teams Encourage the students to discuss strategy. Inform the students that any team caught cheating, (grabbing two balls at one), will forfeit all of their balls to the other team.

Name of the Game: Kick and Chase.

Stage: Stage 3

Explanation : Students get into groups of eight. They are then to split into two lines of four, facing each other with roughly 20 metres between the two lines of students. The student at the front of one line kicks the soccer ball to the student at the front of the line opposite them. Once they have kicked the soccer ball, they are to run to the back of the opposite line. Once all eight students have swapped sides, they are to sit down. The first group to sit down wins.

Why is this game important for this stage? Allows students to work together to achieve their goal, promoting teamwork and proficiency. Encourages students to encourage one another, creating a feeling of belonging. Allows students to focus on completing multiple tasks such as kicking and trapping a ball, and running.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How? Interacting: INS3.3- Acts in a way that enhance the contribution of self and others in a range of cooperative situations. Moving: MOS3.4- Refines and applies movement skills creatively to a variety of challenging situations. Decision Making: DMS3.2- Makes informed decisions and accepts responsibility for consequences. Indicators:

Indicators: Demonstrates actions that support the rights and feelings of others, eg fair play. Expresses and acts appropriately in a team.

Indicators: Runs at an appropriate speed in relation to the game being played. Kicks a ball with an appropriate amount of force.

Accepts responsibilities for their decisions and actions. Strives to achieve a personal target.

Equipment and Teaching cues Soccer ball for each group. If the game ends to quickly, repeat the game but have the students throw the ball to each other using soccer throw in style throws. Demonstrate the game to the students before commencing to avoid chaos.
