INTRODUCTION
Social media is currently being used regularly by Grade 11 ICT students in Del Gallego National High
School. It is how people Communicate, Watch Videos, seek information whether through Facebook, twitter,
YouTube, Gmail, etc. Social media can also have a good effect on students in challenging instructional
strategy because it attempts to balance the authority of the educator with the active participation of the
students. It seeks information which is very helpful for the students. They can browse ideas or information
that help them in their projects, as well as in their homework and activities in school. On the other hand, the
used of social media can lead to addiction that can negatively affect student’s performance in school.
Where Grade 11 ICT students in Del Gallego National High School create content, share it, bookmark it and
network at a prodigious rate. Because of its ease of use, speed and reach, social media is fast changing the
public discourse in society and setting trends and agenda in topics that range from the environment and
politics to technology and the entertainment industry. Social Media has Exploded as a category of online
discourse where people create content, share it, bookmark it and network at a prodigious rate. Because of its

(Asur and Huberman, 2010). In the last ten years, the online world has changed dramatically, thanks to the

and easier. While the disadvantage is; it can cause addiction and emotional devastation especially to
teenagers who usually communicate using Social Media. Social Media Chatting is more essential if people will
understand to use it in an appropriate way rather than using it to harm and intimidate people. The students
need to learn to use this in seldom times to prevent addiction. Consider communicating in a old and
The effects of using social media on students’ academic achievement and well-being were classified into the

findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: Social media is of advantage to students because
it enhances communication, gives information, offers entertainment and provides safety. However, it is
decrease motivation and focus, contains toxic side, and may spread misinformation, Social media affects
students’ academic performance and well-being in many ways. It can decrease attention span, promote
health deterioration , expand explanations on lessons, heighten stress, enhance proper communication and
seeking assistance, encourage motivation and independence and trigger relationship and personal issues.
These effects can be attributed to too much information and tasks, household responsibilities, lack of sleep,
ore screen time, lack of physical activities, due to staying at home, access to unlimited information,
procrastination, difficulties in learning, access to different media platforms, flexible schedule and more time
in social media.
The purpose of the study is to determine the impact of social media on mental health in grade 11 ict students
in del gallego camarines sur.

The results of this study shall be beneficial to the school administration, the faculty,
the students, and the public in general. To the University of Southern Mindanao (USM)
officials, the results would guide them empirical bases in the improvement of the existing
educational policies, curriculum and strategies. or the formulation new ones, towards a more
effective delivery of learning in this information age. To the curriculum committee and the
academic affairs office, output of this research would provide them a first-hand information
on how social networking media affects the academic performance of the students in the
University, in general, and in the Institute of Middle East and Asian Studies (IMEAS), in
particular, so that they would design measures to further improve, upgrade and expand the
coverage of the internet service in the school campus. Further, for the guidance counselors,
this study also gives them clear perspective on how the specific behavior of students is
affected by social networking media. To the IMEAS students. findings of this work shall
guide them on how to properly design their study habits thereby improving their scholastic
achievements. This will provide them information on how to exploit the use social media to
improve their studies. To the future researchers on social networking media, the results
would serve as a baseline data for them to conduct the same study in order to validate the
findings,
